Mike Massie Gone With The Twins 08/30/2020
7/10
It's creepy and funny all at once, hovering in that murky area between comical exploitation and gruesome horror. Go to Full Review
Penelope Houston The Spectator 07/07/2018
Apart from a few camera rambles round a toy and axe strewn mansion and sunnily murderous garden, the film is only indifferently horrific and seldom funny. Go to Full Review
Steve Biodrowski Cinefantastique 04/14/2010
Although initially intriguing, the eccentric English humor goes only so far, and the plot...needs more engaging performances and a stronger ending. Go to Full Review

This forgotten oddity is ripe for rediscovery -- like its characters, it may get to you even if you don't realize it. Go to Full Review

Matthew D 11/23/2020 Wanted to like it more than I did. Its's well directed with game performances and some clever moments, but it's also one joke stretched into 101 minutes. It got a little tedious. See more 09/14/2018 Girly is one of those rare cinema gems that denies you a gut reaction and leaves you in a state of perpetual confusion...until days later when you realize you've actually seen something new and groundbreaking. Not so much traditional horror as it is psychological horror, an unnerving experience in which you're held hostage by a family that is sociopathic, if not as traditionally violent as the Sawyer / Leatherface family. The movie was initially looked over because of sheer "indifference" - it wasn't a slasher movie or a thriller. But what it was, was a psychological study in psychosis. A pioneer of the psychological horror genre, as well as a political satire. See more 04/04/2016 This looks like an uneventful children's movie, but it is actually full of psychological horror. See more 06/21/2015 You and your childish games - says Diana to Charles See more 03/31/2015 Well, this film turned out to be a bit flat. I expected something way gorier, being a black comedy and all. It's not funny, it's not scary and it's not that weird - three strong features I hoped for before watching it. It's quite surreal and mysterious and the nutjob family and plot is OK. A rather unknown film, never being a hit in UK - where it was produced. It got some fame in US, but not much. The acting and the looks of Girly (Vanessa Chartoff) is my guess why it got any attention at all. She gave up acting shortly after the film, unaware of the glimse of fame the film got in US. Anyhow, a film that should have been weirder, gorier, funnier and better in most ways. Not a total disaster, but more a curiosity. Strangly enough it got some sort of appeal and it's not a boring film. I'm pretty sure Kubric saw this film by the way... 4 out of 10 axe holes.
