Sostanzialmente un film autobiografico, con Pupi Avati che racconta la sua adolescenza passata in una Bologna negli anni d'oro del dopoguerra, tra avvenenti insegnanti di pianoforte, puttane d'alto borgo, personcine umili e ingenue, finti ricconi e guardoni. Tutti personaggi accomunati da una cosa: il Bar Margherita. Dove, tra una partita di biliardo e una canzone alla radio, puoi far credere agli altri e a te stesso di essere ciò che vuoi.
