Par H @Parhwy Feb 7 2018’s Gloria Bell is a film of vignettes focussing on the title’s namesake: Gloria Bell (Julianne Moore). Each vignette gives you insight into Gloria: home alone; at work; with family; with friends; with strangers; in love and out; dancing; drinking; drunk, stoned… A story slowly curls its way through these jigsaw pieces. Is this film plotless? I felt so. There was a crescendo and denouement however there was no plot per se. That said, I sadly zoned-out at two key points (zoned-out aka scrolling). So, I missed why she spiralled out in Las Vegas, and I missed what went wrong after she hooked up with Sean Astin. I gather her boyfriend revealed himself to have a second family and I gather Samwise robbed her… I was watching the film on free-to-air, meaning I could not rewind. I am a 55 year old man so my understanding was limited however I’m single, solo and yolo, so I enjoyed Gloria’s story and struggles to be herself. Julianne Moore delivered so well in this American version of this Chilean movie by the same director and man did she do amazing or what? Yes, she did. It's a cute lovely and feel good movie. You come to this movie for Julianne Moore as Gloria and the whole movie was about her and trying to navigate her life post divorce and trying to find her way and place in this world.
