Audience Member A dysfunctional family move from Germany to the extreme north of Norway where the sun doesn't come up for 2 months in winter. During this period we see them trying to cope with the change and it's clear things aren't really working out. Then there is an incident which fundamentally changes the couple's relationship and the rest of the film is about coping with guilt and its odd side-effects. The acting is great even though I had to rely on subtitles (except for scenes where the German Dad uses english to speak with Norwegians) and the plot pans out quite differently from anticipated. I find it fascinating how different cultures can behave/react to things completely differently - for instance I can't imagine an English/American adaptation working at all because our sense of justice is so different. The cinematography is breath-taking as well and the constant feeling of sunrise is eerie and sets the scene well. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Read all reviews
