Audience Member Mani Yaesh's "Ha-Mashgihim" explores religious psychology in a somewhat controversial but honest manner. Yaesh introduces us to a group of angry young Israeli men who spend their days nights drinking, smoking hash and partying. During daytime- whenever they aren't playing football- these men pray in a synagogue, learning religious dogma from their rabbi. The funhaving of this group of youngsters also extends to their violent protection of the neighborhood; whenever they see something unholy (a man selling pornographic magazines, a woman wearing too little, someone disrespecting the Sabbath), they do not hesitate to use violence, psychological or physical to teach the transgressor a lesson. "Ha-Mashgihim" ultimately reaches strong motifs of ethnic and religious violence, but never forgets to approach its characters through humanity and an analytical point of view. As a whole the pacing of the story lags a bit and we get to the truly compelling content a bit too late, but when we do get there the narrative delivers.
