Critics Consensus

Look on Gods of Egypt, ye filmgoers, and despair! Nothing beside remains. Round the decay of this colossal wreck, boundless and bare. The lone and level sands stretch far away. (Apologies to Shelley.)

Matt J I enjoyed it. Better than the reviews would suggest. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/05/25 Full Review Blu B If this didn't have the major problem of special effects/horrifically bad cinematography this would'nt be good but it would be much less of a trainwreck than its current state. The special effects are just beyond horrific. This alternates between looking like a video game, Spy Kids movie at times, cheaply done, inconsistent, and ho hum at best. There are maybe a couple times at the start it looks good during the grand ceremony but besides that my god. It's amazing how shotty they look. It somehow is more oversaturated with CGI than the Star Wars prequels. The cinematography is just constant green screen, medium upper body shots, sets so dark you can barely see or sets that are cheap with a green screen background. The whole thing reminds me of the glossy look of Crystal Skull but even worse. There is hardly anything tangible in thisbeyond the most basic level and it just is awful to look at. The music and acting is pretty average for the most part. Butler reminds of Christian Bale in Love & Thunder where he's pouring his heart into this. Acting wise he's the best thing. The generic boy hero is super forgettable. Pretty much everyone is honestly because the graphics are so distracting. The editing isn't good here. It never explains or sets rules to these Gods powers so when they do stuff it just feels so random and out of nowhere. On top of that it's unfocused and forgets about the boy it feels like half the time and it's jumpy. It jumps around between Butler and the the brother/Boy duo on their journey. And the pacing is horrifc here. It suprisngly gets soooo boring in the second half before trying to overcorrect with oversaturated action. It tries tying up all storylines and love stories all at once too and it's just a complete mess. The dialouge is also inconsistent also. Skip this. Is it one of the WORST things ever made? No far from it but given the budget this had as well it's beyond a major disappointment. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 11/03/25 Full Review Jp T Don't understand the negative ratings... Love the film... Loved the story... Classic light against darkness and light winning. My type of movie. Great visuals. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/29/25 Full Review Rene G Very good movie.
