Robert Abele Los Angeles Times It's...familiar plotting and by-the-numbers characterization that sinks this earnest, gay-contoured take on the evergreen making-it-big melodrama. Rated: 2/5 May 18, 2012 Full Review Frank Scheck The Hollywood Reporter A young acting hopeful finds that things are tough in Tinseltown in this not exactly revelatory gay-themed drama. Apr 19, 2012 Full Review Daniel M. Gold New York Times "Going Down" falls well short of compelling, either as a coming-of-age film, a satire or a romance. Rated: 1.5/5 Apr 19, 2012 Full Review Amanda Jane Stern Film Inquiry Going Down in La-La Land was a surprisingly entertaining film, a pretty solid indie. Jun 30, 2020 Full Review Brian Juergens AfterElton.com Going Down doesn't stray far from the Hollywood Cautionary Tale formula - but credit for making a downward spiral feel as gritty as a mid-afternoon trip to Pinkberry. Rated: 6/10 Apr 20, 2012 Full Review David Noh Film Journal International A young Hollywood hopeful resorts to porn, and his lowered expectations match yours as you trudge through this latest gay--but really grim--offering by tireless auteur Casper Andreas. Audience Member Lacks a lot in charisma and talent. It quallifies as a gay rom-com though. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie is hilarious. Candy is the best! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member another version of the 'going hollywood to be a star' tale Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member A amateur film maker's homework assignment. Adam an attractive young New Yorker who seeks fame in Tinsel Town (Hollywood), discovers as did many of his predecessors the dark reality of the "movie business". Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Good Gay Story. La-La Land. Good Cameos. Cute Star. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member Strictly an LGBT film entry, GOING DOWN... begins by romanticizing the sordid aspects of Hollywood's porn and escort industry. At first a cotton candy coated variation of LA's underbelly with splashes of its ugly realities, the film veers half way into showing all that isn't nice. However, disappointingly perhaps, it then resorts to a fairytale ending, a most disturbing way to cap off a movie about not selling yourself short. Oh well, the film certainly seems to want to have its cake and eat it. And with such a vanilla lead and by virtue of its seaminess, combined, it sure does, to confusing yet somewhat satisfying results. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Read all reviews
