Audience Member Another good EL book getting a poor movie adaptation. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member not that great, but watch if you want to see some Leonard dialogue acted out on the small screen. on second thought, just watch the tv series, Justified, instead. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Like Scissors, this '90s-stravaganza's ridiculous really should have elicited a thorough live-blogging. And like Scissors, the entries would've grown repetitive. This movie's comments would've fallen into the following four categories: WTF '90s sexy sax; WTF stagey/TV-y emotionless, too-fast-speaking acting; WTF directing/cinematography; CSI jokes. To elaborate on a few of these categories--'90s sexy sax is pretty self-explanatory, except that although the movie was made by Showtime and that music sounded like shorthand for a soft-core porno, the movie is not a soft-core porno, and it shouldn't be forced to sound that cheesy/nasty/stupid because the script is actually not that bad. The acting and directing go together. The actors don't do a terrible job of delivering appropriately inflected lines, but the pacing is so off--always too fast or too slow. And the emotions/chemistry were just not there, like in an ok high-school production, where the actors know their lines and have been coached how to say them, but they don't really understand or care about the characters they're playing. I blame the director because we all know how much I love Catherine Willows and Horatio Caine. And the camera work is nonsensical--characters move awkwardly around with the camera panned out to see each weird pose instead of coming in for any close-ups.
