      Critics Consensus

Zac Efron makes Gold worth watching, even if the film as a whole struggles to match its leading man's committed central performance.

Kisha It was good. The ending couldve lasted 2-3 more minutes. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/16/22 Full Review Starla Slow paced movie, but makes you a little nervous with anticipation as to how it will end. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/13/22 Full Review steelas481 Movie would be a lot better if the protagonist wasn't almost impossible to like...reason being he just messed up all the time by doing completely air headed things. Not that he was made to be some kind of survival expert but like dude has no common sense and is trying to survive reactively instead of proactively. Zac Efron is a pretty good actor but man did they make his character in this movie an idiot. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/29/24 Full Review Fred K Enjoyed it. Kept you thinking. Always pleased when a primary actor also wrote and directed it!! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/19/24 Full Review Natan Movie was unique and the setting never changed, I think that the ending could have been better but I think that what the writers did was still good. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/15/24 Full Review Green C One of the most stressful movies I've seen, but mesmerizing. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/23/24 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Rex Reed Observer Stretches [Efron's] range and physical endurance far beyond anything his fans ever dreamed of. Rated: 3/4 Mar 31, 2022 Full Review Christy Lemire RogerEbert.com If only the film itself rose to Efron's extreme level of his commitment. Rated: 2/4 Mar 11, 2022 Full Review Guy Lodge Variety [Efron is] good, as anyone’s who been paying attention should expect. Beyond that, it’s a somewhat arid exercise. Mar 11, 2022 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies A taut, focused, and surprisingly potent thriller. It also features a terrific Zac Efron performance that gives long-time naysayers like me a chance to rethink our past feelings on the 34-year-old actor. Rated: 4/5 Aug 16, 2022 Full Review John Serba Decider ... This film is occasionally artful, but mostly mirthless and ugly and hopeless. Jul 14, 2022 Full Review Peter Canavese Celluloid Dreams Zac Efron more than carries this effective post-apocalyptic 'Treasure of the Sierra Madre' set in the Australian outback.
