      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Helen Mirren is typically masterful in the title role, but Golda never amounts to much more than a passable history lesson presented in largely underwhelming biopic form.

Golda is a moving history lesson that gives you a good feel for the real people and events it depicts -- and Helen Mirren is incredible in the title role.

Stephen Romei The Australian There's too much reliance on news footage of the real Meir. Characters appear with who-they-are explanatory captions that a good script would not need. It's worth watching because of its relevance, and for Mirren's performance Rated: 3/5 May 10, 2024 Full Review Jenny Nulf Austin Chronicle Golda isn’t a failure of skill, but one of vision. Rated: 2/5 Nov 17, 2023 Full Review Hannah Strong London Evening Standard Golda is more like a chapter of a dusty history book than an invigorating, timely glimpse into the past. Rated: 2/5 Oct 10, 2023 Full Review John McDonald Australian Financial Review Golda, with Helen Mirren in the lead role, is a sympathetic portrait of a leader under extreme pressure, who rises to the occasion in defiance of her own physical frailty and the demands of her American allies, but it’s not entirely flattering. May 24, 2024 Full Review James Croot Stuff.co.nz While screenwriter Nicholas Martin’s dialogue occasionally veers into the territory known as overly-portentous, director Guy Nattiv’s use of monochrome both enhances and benefits greatly from the script’s tight focus. Rated: 3.5/5 May 9, 2024 Full Review Jim Schembri jimschembri.com Mirren is outstanding as the cigarette-loving chief whose strategic acumen was matched by her conscience, which bore the burden of casualties heavily. DOps This was an outstanding character study of a unique individual. Helen Mirin was unrecognizable powerful in her depiction of Golda. Recounting the stakes and actions of the Yom Kippur war was timely. The director took no sides -- only depicting the struggles of a leader to survive physically and nationally. Helen Mirren was fabulous. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/07/23 Full Review Sarah V Impeccable acting and makeup! Historically Accurate. Deep. Moving. Loved it! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/05/23 Full Review DANIEL A remarkably powerful movie with a world-class performance by Helen Mirren as Golda Meir. A painfully honest and accurate depiction of the horrors and tragedies of the Yom Kippur war. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/05/23 Full Review Read all reviews
