David Redfern (Trevor Howard) is a British archaeologist sent to Tunis to recover artifacts. While romancing the lovely Anna (Anouk Aimée), he runs afoul of a vicious group of gun runners, led by Serafis (Walter Rilla) and assisted by the thuggish Rankl (Herbert Lom). Torn between minding his own business and completing his job, and the opportunity to overthrow the criminals who are terrorizing the locals, Redfern takes on the near-impossible task of bringing the gun runners to justice.
