James Agee TIME Magazine The general whimsicality of the picture is weary but Miss Dietrich does what she can with the laborious charade. Mar 2, 2018 Full Review Frank J. Avella Edge Media Network The great Marlene has a blast with the role, as if she's super aware she's miscast. The script is cheese, so she refuses to take it too seriously, camping it up at every turn and taking control of each situation. Rated: C+ Jan 21, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews

georgan g This silly plot doesn't go anywhere or make any sense. Marlene Dietrich is in brown make-up, as a gypsy, fawns over an American soldier who has no interest in her even touching him. Yet, he ends up going to her at the end. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member A really unique film, with a role in which I think Ray Milland is one of the few actors that could have pulled it off. The on-screen chemistry between him and Marlene Dietrich is wonderful, and you end up rooting for them all the way. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member A strange Nazi twist, with Dietrich glowing, and a nice old fashioned romance brewing... Dietrich plays an earthy gypsy with a heart of gold--Absorbing, plausible, wonderfully entertaining!! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member A former British spy recalls his wartime journey through Germany with a Gypsy woman. Dietrich cast as a dark skinned gypsy woman is delightfully bizarre, but Milland and her do not share much of a spark. It's a mildly entertaining film with some amusing moments, but not very memorable. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Not bad romance/spy adventure. Somewhat predictable though. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member A very lightweight film--decent enough to pass the time.
