What to Know

Critics Consensus

Goldfinger is where James Bond as we know him comes into focus - it features one of 007's most famous lines ("A martini. Shaken, not stirred.") and a wide range of gadgets that would become the series' trademark.

Penelope Houston Sight & Sound Goldfinger allows nothing to impede its sense of humour: it converts Bond into a human equivalent of the cat in the Tom and Jerry cartoons, with the same ghastly resilience and the same capacity for absorbing punishment. Jul 6, 2018 Full Review Wanda Hale New York Daily News It's phenomenal! Rated: 4/4 Dec 21, 2015 Full Review Eric Shorter Daily Telegraph (UK) Ours not to reason why with "Goldfinger"; ours but to gape and admire; which is very easy and enjoyable until the story's iceberg of extravagance finally appears in its true proportions. Feb 2, 2014 Full Review David Parkinson Radio Times Endlessly entertaining and effortlessly performed, it's packed with classic moments. Rated: 5/5 Aug 8, 2024 Full Review Sarah Cortinaz InSession Film Bond is grittier in this action role while still holding on to his sleek and handsome charm. But more importantly, the Bond girls change, definitely for the better. Apr 23, 2024 Full Review Sean Axmaker Stream on Demand ... forged the formula of tongue-in-cheek wit, wondrous secret agent toys created by Q, and megalomaniac supervillains bent on world destruction. It was an instant smash hit and turned the series into a cultural phenomenon. Dec 3, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews

Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/06/24 Full Review Thomas H The film that made bond, incredible! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/14/24 Full Review Adrian S A must see film for anyone it is action packed and it has so much cool espionage Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/11/24 Full Review Jace E I think that "Goldfinger" is the best depiction of Bond in the first three films. He is not "in the dark" like in "From Russia with Love" and his charm is even more intriguing than in "Dr. No". From the first moment when he sees the bad guys reflection in the girl's eye, it is clear this Bond movie is on a different level. The spy gadgets are on point, the villain is introduced early and the Bond Girl actually has purpose, even if her name is Pussy Galore. My gripe with this film is that it is a tale of two halves. The first half is borderline incredible. Everything is clicking and there are brilliant moments (i.e., the banter with Q, the girl covered in gold, the car chase and the laser). Unfortunately, once things move to Kentucky (almost exactly at the halfway point), everything slows down. Bond is locked up, there is a unnecessarily lengthy sequence with a car being smashed and the climax is rushed (as with most Bond films). The worst part of this film is a three minute scene where Pussy Galore is dropping knock-out gas from her plane. The score is UNBEARABLY repetitive and aggravating. I honestly had to put my TV on mute because of how annoying it was. I think that scene alone dropped my review by half a star. Remove that small annoyance and the inconsistency of the second half and "Goldfinger" is a solid entry in the James Bond universe. Best Character: Oddjob Best Quote: "No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to die!" - Goldfinger Best Scene: Fighting with Oddjob in the vault Best Piece of Score: "Goldfinger" Note: These movies need to stop killing off such great characters. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/16/24 Full Review Andrew A When you think Bond, you think ‘Goldfinger’! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/20/24 Full Review Blobbo X Best of the Bond adaptations IBHO. (In Blobbo humble opinion.) Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/30/24 Full Review Read all reviews
