What to Know

Critics Consensus

Goldfinger is where James Bond as we know him comes into focus - it features one of 007's most famous lines ("A martini. Shaken, not stirred.") and a wide range of gadgets that would become the series' trademark.

Goldfinger allows nothing to impede its sense of humour: it converts Bond into a human equivalent of the cat in the Tom and Jerry cartoons, with the same ghastly resilience and the same capacity for absorbing punishment. Go to Full Review

Ours not to reason why with "Goldfinger"; ours but to gape and admire; which is very easy and enjoyable until the story's iceberg of extravagance finally appears in its true proportions. Go to Full Review

Bond is grittier in this action role while still holding on to his sleek and handsome charm. But more importantly, the Bond girls change, definitely for the better. Go to Full Review

Chris S @Janomi 5h Goldfinger is one of the definitive James Bond films, with Sean Connery at his most iconic in the role. He has the confidence, charm, arrogance, danger, and dry humor all working at once, creating one of the clearest versions of the classic screen Bond. The movie also gives the franchise one of its strongest villains. Gert Fröbe makes Auric Goldfinger greedy, theatrical, petty, and completely convinced of his own genius, while Oddjob becomes unforgettable through pure presence: the hat, the silence, the strength, and the loyalty all make him instantly threatening. This is where the Bond formula clicks into full strength: the Aston Martin, gadgets, Shirley Bassey’s theme song, the pre-title adventure, elaborate death traps, glamour, humor, and absurdity. The Fort Knox climax is more fun than believable, but that is part of the charm. Goldfinger is exceptional Bond entertainment and one of the strongest examples of the franchise at its most iconic. See more IAM M @IAM1655 Jun 7 This is the movie that made James Bond a massive superstar. He was also well known in Dr. No, and From Russia with Love, but this film made him huge. The scene with the girl turned into gold is one of the best scenes in film history. The Aston Martin DB5 is one of the best cars of the series. Gert Fröbe was pretty good as Goldfinger, but his death was a bit silly. It's still fun. See more Takesi N @shinjukuargus Apr 6 Goldfinger is one of the defining James Bond films and a major reason the 007 formula became iconic. Sean Connery is effortlessly cool, the villain is memorable, and the film delivers style, wit, and classic spy-movie spectacle. Some parts feel dated today, but its charm, confidence, and larger-than-life energy still make it one of the most entertaining Bond movies. https://uwaki-koushinjo.net/ See more Read all reviews
