Nell Minow RogerEbert.com Kurtzman, who never acted or saw a movie set before Stanger invited him to collaborate, has a thoughtful screen presence. Rated: 3.5/4 Aug 16, 2024 Full Review Ryan Devir Film Threat It succeeds in making you laugh, cry, and, most importantly, believe in true love. Rated: 8/10 Oct 3, 2024 Full Review Don Shanahan Film Obsessive Rather than entirely dwell on or define a man by debilitations, Good Bad Things pleasingly creates a narrative where success and vivacity are not only desirable, but deservedly attainable. Rated: 4/5 Aug 15, 2024 Full Review Dennis Harvey 48 Hills Good Bad Things is significant in representational terms, but frankly it needed a more charismatic lead to be as charming and inspiring as intended. Aug 14, 2024 Full Review Peter Martin DallasFilmNow.com Let’s be frank: we are all disabled, to one extent or another. In Good Bad Things, Danny Kurtzman stands up, opens his heart, calls for change, and gives a wonderful performance as an imperfect man who wants love in his life. As do we all. Rated: 3.5/5.0 Aug 14, 2024 Full Review Tina Kakadelis Beyond the Cinerama Dome Good Bad Things is a warm hug of a movie, the kind you’d seek out when you’re home sick from school. Brooke N A story of friendship, self love, and romance from a perspective never seen before. This movie effortlessly makes you feel every emotion and makes you want to watch it over and over again. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/23/24 Full Review S C I do love that lives like Danny's are being portrayed on the screen. As someone who is dating someone with a similar disability, I have not seen a lot of representation done in such a real way before. Unfortunately, language, nudity, and drugs mar the portrayal a bit, making it slightly less presentable to a wider audience, but as a conservative, it is nothing I haven't gotten used to. Otherwise, I could recommend it to my friends and family. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/03/24 Full Review Jenny R I thought the film showed how much Danny’s friend loved and cared for him. It was very uplifting to see the unconditional friendship between the two. Additionally, the same holds true for Danny’s girlfriend. I thought the relationship between Danny and his girlfriend was inspiring, but left out any hesitancy or excitement when she first met him. Girls tend to discuss their dates with other people, especially their girlfriends. This seemed to be missing. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/27/24 Full Review Christian B Good Bad Things deeply resonated with me as it explores love, disability, and masculinity through the story of Danny, an entrepreneur with muscular dystrophy. The film authentically portrays his journey of self-acceptance, vulnerability, and relationships, without reducing him to his disability. It reminded me of my own experiences navigating intimacy and confronting societal expectations. Danny’s story, like my own, shows that disabled bodies are deserving of love, connection, and complex representation in media. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/27/24 Full Review Josh N I rented Good Bad Things at the suggestion of two people whose opinions I respect mightily, and I'm so glad I did. The movie was wonderful because it focused on the HUMAN relationships between Danny and Madi, as well as his prior girlfriend and the others in his orbit. His disability was clearly present, and so were the ways that Jason, Madi, his dad, and others helped manage access when needed, but it was not the story's main focus. Even in the moments it was considered, they took care to ask what he wanted, be sure he was ready to move/transfer, and to let him do for himself when he didn’t need/want help - they helped, but he maintained autonomy. The scene when Danny and Jason were pitching the execs at Rubi, when he let go of the foundering slide deck & rehearsed plan and just shared his experience of finding love through the app was a highlight of the interpersonal facet to me. As one of the recommenders suggested, the movie shows all the NUANCE of navigating this world full of other people and their perceptions and assumptions, especially about love and relationships, and representation of disability as a context, not a focus - it’s a powerful perspective. As the star rating says, I definitely recommend Good Bad Things to anyone who wants to see a solid love story amid the full variety of people and situations in the world. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/27/24 Full Review Wendy S A brilliant realistic representation of what people with a disability can be and achieve. A heart-warming storyline acted out so well by everyone. Well done to everyone involved. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/27/24 Full Review Read all reviews
