But where the movie really drops the ball is in its portrayal of characters. Akshay's character is a straight-up an a** to everyone around him including his pregnant wife who is dealing with a lot. He also acts like a creep ogling someone else's wife for the sake of "comedy." And to make matters worse the movie draws a hard line on the abortion and adoption topics. At three separate times in the movie characters reject the idea of adoption. The movie treats adoption as a lesser form of parenting. And on the issue of abortion, it actively preaches to the audience that "all abortions are bad." Never truly considering the impact the decisions have on people's life. Because if the movie even remotely tries to talk about the issue openly, Indian audiences will immediately reject it. tl;dw of the movie is "talking about pregnancy and abortion is a good thing, as long as you decided that pregnancy is the only way to have kids, adoption is for losers, and abortion is murder." Bollywood keeps making these movies with high concepts and then doesn't bother putting any effort into the project. Akshay might think he is making these important movies on important causes, but more often than not, he makes mediocre movies that hurt the very cause.
