Audience Member I think this is Martin Clunes' best work. Wonderfully acted and for anyone who attended an all boys school there is so much which is familiar. Seen it dozens of times. Each time it comes up I veer away but always get dragged back in to watch the entire remainder. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Masterpiece Theatre does it again. This is a beautifully rendered version of the beloved story. The acting, and photography, are top notch. The dialogue is very well written, and engaging. I think this is just as good as all the other versions I have seen. Clune's performance is not only outstanding, but very touching and heartfelt. There are scenes that brought me to tears. His expressive features underscore his solid acting. A very nice retelling. Nancy Banks-Smith Guardian Goodbye Mr Chips, the story of a gentle man among gentlemen, was quietly charming and a tour de force for Martin Clunes, proving, as usual, that a tragedian can't play comedy but a comedian can play anything. Feb 26, 2020 Full Review Steven D. Greydanus Decent Films Not a remake of the 1939 classic but a new adaptation of Hilton's sentimental novella... couldn't be more different from the 1939 film, and that's all to the good. Rated: A- Feb 26, 2020 Full Review John Leonard New York Magazine/Vulture ... Victoria Hamilton is delightful as the radical feminist Mr. Chips meets in the very wet woods and weds, to the astonishment and envy of his colleagues. Jan 27, 2018 Full Review A.A. Gill Sunday Times (UK) In this version, Martin Clunes set his mortarboard at the role and, I must say, he did it incredibly well. Oct 11, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews
