Nye N. @nye2025 4d Great film. A slow start but methodically ramps up to its horrific ending. The plot twist is great but major ambiguity remains unresolved at the end; though ambiguity can sometimes be the creatively smart choice, I personally don’t think it was here. For this reason, and a general desire for some more plot on my part, I give it 4 stars rather than 5. Nonetheless, it’s a memorable European horror (from Austria) … both artistic and entertaining. So many horror movies are downright offensive to any sense of intelligence that I avoid the genre entirely if I can. Derivative or not, Ich sehe Ich sehe ("I see, I see"--no doubt a nod to the song the twins listen to their mother sing) has a solid identity; still, the ending seemed offensively contrived. I'd recommend John and the Hole to anyone interested in a similar energy without as much gore. The only thing that doesn't make it a 5 in my eyes is the (SPOILER) scene where the mother is in the woods, seemingly possessed. To me, it was out of place, and didn't quite add up as the rest of the plot developed. Aside from this, however, I do believe this work is one-of-a-kind in its dread, mystery, and haunting setting, not to mention the story it tells. See more Read all reviews
