Though Goofy always means well, his amiable cluelessness and klutzy pratfalls regularly embarrass his awkward adolescent son, Max. When Max's lighthearted prank on his high-school principal finally gets his longtime crush, Roxanne, to notice him, he asks her on a date. Max's trouble at school convinces Goofy that he and the boy need to bond over a cross-country fishing trip like the one he took with his dad when he was Max's age, which throws a kink in his son's plans to impress Roxanne.

Andy Grieser Fort Worth Star-Telegram/DFW.com This movie is excellent for the little ones up through the preteen years. They'll like the slapstick, the wild and wacky antics of a cartoon cross-country adventure and Max's quest to be cool at school. Rated: 3.5/5 Apr 2, 2025 Full Review Bill Hoffmann New York Post "A Goofy Movie" looks slapped together with about as much care as a kid takes making mud pies at the beach. The Script is abysmal and the animation just barely adequate. Apr 1, 2025 Full Review Leslie Felperin Sight & Sound Although A Goofy Movie resurrects a major character of the Disney short cartoons of the 30s-50s - the gormless canine star, Goofy - viewers expecting a nostalgic recreation of the old-fashioned, small-town world he once lived in are in for a shock. Apr 1, 2025 Full Review Bill DuPre News & Observer (Raleigh, NC) ...the characters in "A Goofy Movie," for all their cartoonish ways, are a lot like you and me. And that's what gives the movie its depth and resonance. Apr 2, 2025 Full Review Tony Lofaro Ottawa Citizen Children will love the animation and music, and parents can relate to some of the positive messages conveyed in the film. Welcome to the '90s, Goofy. You fit right in. Rated: 3/5 Apr 2, 2025 Full Review Dennis King Tulsa World The movie might be "Goofy," but like its stumbling, good-natured namesake, it has its heart in the right place. Laura D I loved this movie as a kid growing up. I would watch it and rewatch it . Max was my first crush back then. The songs are catchy and up beat and the characters are funny and colorful.Be careful if you don't want your kids watching a movie with a little adult humor . Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/10/25 Full Review Anthony A Simply put…a underrated gem! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/09/25 Full Review Casey M Such a heartwarming classic filled with early/mid 90’s nostalgia! Criminally underrated! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/08/25 Full Review matthias s **Review: A Goofy Movie (3/5 stars)** Always been a Disney fan, so watching *A Goofy Movie* to celebrate its 30th anniversary felt like the right move. And honestly? It holds up *really* well. Behind the wacky antics, slapstick gags, and dad-joke energy is a surprisingly deep, emotional story about a father trying to connect with his teenage son before he slips away. Goofy isn’t just being, well, goofy—he’s trying. And Max? He’s just trying *not* to turn into his dad. It’s relatable from both sides, depending on where you are in life. The songs? Bangers. “Eye to Eye” alone is enough to earn a gold star. Classic Disney animation, catchy tunes, and some pretty sharp writing make this feel like more than just a kids’ flick—it’s layered. Adults will see their own families in here, whether they like it or not. That said, I think this would hit even harder if I were a dad, or had that kind of father-son dynamic in my own life. Without that extra emotional punch, it’s a strong 3 stars for me—but I get why it’s a beloved classic. Not just nostalgia; it’s got heart under the hijinks.
