Anton Bitel Little White Lies Hanzo may be an earnest champion of the dispossessed and a fearlessly physical critic of the status quo - but his full-frontal assault on the patriarchal order is also overtly phallocentric. s r A Japanese recreation of Shaft as a samurai warrior. Complete with funky tunes. However, it was bad. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Far better than the Zatoichi movies - Hanzo is a Japanese James Bond: irreverent towards authority, offs the villains by the dozens (bloodily), and impresses all the women with his, ahem, equipment. Hysterical! Feminist it aint, but great satire on the stiff-necked 'honorable samurai' movies of Mifune et. al. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Bizarre as a description would be putting it mildly. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Edo's "Shaft" starts off his trilogy strong with a conspiracy that goes all the way to the top! Exploitation classic. "Much bloodshed and laughter." Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member The wild open-mindedness of the flower-power age certainly extended to Japan. This might get an X-rating now simply for the inane methods of interrogation this sheriff trusts to get at the truth. Great for stag / hen parties. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member What the hell was this?! I was expecting a fun, sword-fighting movie, and I got some crazy samurai who uses his tortured(literally! He subjects it to all sorts of pain) phallus to "interrogate" females into giving up the information he needs to catch the "bad guys". It's just off the wall goofy. The story itself is pretty incoherent, so I can't really go into whether it was good or not. I suppose, on the whole, it was mildly amusing. It's sure as hell nowhere near a good movie, though.
