Noel Murray Los Angeles Times Although a talented cast and crew keep this party lively, the lack of a point becomes a problem. Oct 1, 2015 Full Review Sara Stewart New York Post "Gravy" left a bad taste in my mouth, but for those with an eye for a potential cult film, it may be deliciously perfect. Rated: 2/4 Oct 1, 2015 Full Review Sherilyn Connelly Village Voice [It] succeeds where so many other horror-comedies fail by remembering to be funny first and shocking second. Having a tasty script helps, too. Sep 29, 2015 Full Review Aaron Peterson The Hollywood Outsider For everyone who says they want something different in the world of horror, cast your trepidations aside and take a bite. This Gravy is delicious. Rated: 7.5/10 Oct 25, 2018 Full Review Pat Padua Spectrum Culture Fans of cannibal movies may be satisfied enough by the buckets of blood, but cinephiles who actually want their horror movies to be good won't ask for seconds of this Gravy. Me 4 This was a fun movie. I fully expected this to be really bad. Instead, it was funny with good dialogue, good acting, gratuitous gore, and some wild meandering through the plot. I had no idea where this movie was gonna end up, but its fun qualities made it a great journey. I don't understand where the low ratings come from. It's a dark COMEDY. It's not really trying to scare you. Don't listen to them. Watch it with an open mind and form your own opinion. We need more of that nowadays. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/07/24 Full Review zachary v I unexpectedly really liked "Gravy". I went in blind and was expecting a zero-budget schlock horror, but it wasn't that. Multiple known names in the cast; a few performances missed, but also several which were shockingly great, so it doesn't qualify as "so bad it's good". The real strength is that they managed to thread the needle on tone, and it gets HUGE brownie points for using a They Might Be Giants song in the soundtrack. On the surface it's horror, and it's not "horror-comedy" in the way I normally expect that term to be used; there aren't jokes or punchlines per se, nor 4th wall breaks (although it does have some wacky Loony Tunes sound effects in several weird places). It's mostly just "absurd", in a way that serves the horror premise, but in a surreal way that gives a "funny" vibe. More "funny-weird" than "funny-haha". It's uncomfortable, and it just clicks. The tone is 51% "Saw" and 49% an episode of "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia", and that's a sliver of the Venn Diagram which shouldn't exist. Before I watched this movie, on paper, I would not have expected to like it, and I think there are plenty who won't, but I'm so glad I took a chance, because there is definitely a percentage of people for whom this intersection of "absurd" and "horror" just works. It made a convert of me. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member I thought this was a great movie. Is it deep and thought provoking? Hell no. But is it a fun Halloween cannibal dark comedy? Hell yes. Hillarious. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member A quirky and fun horror-comedy that might not have much of a point, but doesn't really need one. The cast is terrific when it comes to selling the off-the-wall dialogue their characters have and creating great chemistry with their banter. It's not easy to make cannibals endearing, but somehow 'Gravy' pulls it off. It's a film that gets every mile it can out of its single location, small cast, and low budget. For me, this is one of the best horror comedies I've seen in a long time and I recommend it to everyone who knows that a movie doesn't have to be "great" to be worth watching. 'Gravy' is quite simply a good time and that's probably why I enjoyed it so much. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review josh m I thought this was kinda fun and goofy for a horror movie. I had some ok comedy to go along with the gore. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member What did I just watch.......ok, wow. This was bad but I did laugh at some parts throughout the movie but.....just.....wow....yeah. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Read all reviews
