Tony Wong Toronto Star The triumph of the largely improvised film is that the characters, with all their naive optimism, are surprisingly nuanced. Audience Member Aussi genant que drole. Et il est treeeees genant! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member A funny little canadian mockumentary about two odd ball friends trying to make it big as comedians in Toronto. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member An interesting mockumentary, which often makes you wonder if it's fake or not (it is), but ultimately not that funny. I liked it overall, but was expecting more, and could not help but feel a bit disappointed. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie consists of lousy comedians playing lousy comedians. It is not funny or novel. Sacha Baron Cohen has been doing the fake documentary thing for years (Borat, Ali G, etc.) but much better. Many of the scenes were very serious and thus, simply not funny, but this wouldn't work as a drama either, because it doesn't make one care enough. Part of the problem is that the movie is just too believable. They are supposed to be playing lousy comedians when they are, in fact, lousy comedians themselves. Could it be that they are just pretending to pretend? All in all, Greg and Gentillon is only worth seeing if you are from Aylmer, but even then, I would wait until it's in the old release section. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member It wasn't funny, the acting was atrocious, and the idea of a fake documentary isn't unique or creative - it's a sad and sorry cop-out for filmmakers who don't know how to make a real movie. The only reason Greg and Gentillon gets half a star is because Flixster doesn't allow me to give it none. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a very funny film that uses the inherent comedy in awkwardness to great effect.
