jesse o This is just one of those movies that came and went without really leaving much of an impression. Not that it's bad, really, it's just average at best. It just didn't really do anything for me one way or the other. I guess I should start with the description, since this site doesn't seem to have one, essentially, the story tells of this woman who has to save her husband from these scam artists trying to get some money from her to let her husband go. With a six-month old daughter, our protagonist has no choice but to strap her daughter to her back and go on the town to find her husband and save him. The film is all about the hi-jinks she finds herself in during this night, which is made worse by the fact that her in-laws are coming to visit the next day at 5 am, so she has to get everything done in time for their arrival as well. Talking about that, if South Korean comedies are to be believed, then in-laws, elders in general really, are presented to be as really inconsiderate, deciding to show up at whatever time they want without any real warning. Either that or they're much too controlling of what their sons and daughters do or say. Anyway, once the protagonist goes through the town to find the bar her husband is being held hostage at, is when the film really kicks off. It's not like it's great, but I do like the fact that the flick keeps moving, it doesn't stay in one place for long, so the pacing itself is really fast. Though, because of that, nothing ever really seems to stick. And not like the movie really had a lot of depth to begin with, but it is something to note. The film does have some absurd moments, like our protagonist causing a war between these two rival gangs. It's absurd, but I found it entertaining regardless. And that's really all that sticks out at the moment. The film doesn't really have a ton of memorable moments and that's really as a result of the structure. The acting is fine. It's really nothing to write home about, though that's also due to the fact that the characters themselves don't really any depth. Like there's nothing past the basics and it's hard to care for characters that don't have an actual personality. The ending itself was crap. So our protagonist, whose name I forget, finally gets her husband home minutes before the in-laws arrive. She left the stove on, the noodles she made fall to the floor and her husband is drunk, and drugged, out of his mind. The in-laws come in and question her about what happened and she starts loudly weeping. Because it wouldn't be a South Korean comedy without one of the actors loudly weeping at some point. It's not that it doesn't make sense in the context of everything that she went through, only for her to still not have enough time available to fix everything so her in-laws wouldn't be 'disappointed', but it still felt really forced in there. It's not like her weeping loudly was gonna make me care more for her than I already did at that point, which wasn't much if I'm completely honest. But it is what it is. Realistically speaking, this isn't even an average movie, since I'm struggling to find anything that I really liked about this. The gang war was pretty cool, but that's about it. There's nothing else about this that I thought was good or even that funny. Well, I mean, I guess the husband is pretty funny once he gets drugged. But it's not even that great. So, really, this is a below average movie. While it's over quickly, there's nothing here that's really worth watching. I'm being serious. It's probably one of the more skippable South Korean films I've seen in a long time. Nothing to see here, move along. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member The opening scene with scream and crying is a bit annoying, but I most liked the ending scene. That ending was quite heart-warming even though she didn't make it in time after all. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member It wasnt a bad film it did have its funny parts and i have seen worse. if you have nothing better to do you might just want to watch this. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie was funny... I also love this actress. I cried when she lost her baby though, at least she found her. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member A quirky "comedy" that doesn't really deliver on the humor as I was hoping given the potential of the plot. Bae Du Na plays the main character Geum Soon as the wife of the titular "hubby" who is kidnapped after a night of binge drinking and held at ransom. The humor was lost on me by the gangster and even the situation of a wife racing around with her baby on her back and the impending in-laws arriving. Admittedly a few scenes were pretty funny (like the white suit), but in general I did not feel this lived up to it's potential. Bae Du Na does give a great performance (also from the awesome The Host), so that alone may be worth the price of admission for some. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Read all reviews
