Critics Consensus

While Kevin James' earnestness and fleeting moments of heart prevent it from feeling completely hollow, Guns Up struggles to balance its mix of high-octane shootouts and broad humor.

Guns Up is solid proof that a familiar story, told with grit and heart, can be enough. It’s an undeniable victory for Kevin James, who proves that he can pull off an action hero. It's entertaining if, admittedly, not too deep. Go to Full Review

For a film with a name like “Guns Up,” there’s surprisingly little by way of armed shootouts until the final act. For a tale of a family man moonlighting as a mob enforcer, the story and action lack the urgency suggested by its one-last-job premise. Go to Full Review

While there are several problems with the film as a whole, perhaps the central one is that there are long stretches where viewers are expected to take the concept at least somewhat seriously, which proves impossible. Go to Full Review

At just over 90 minutes, Guns Up still manages to drag, never committing to either heartfelt family drama or pulpy, over-the-top violence. Go to Full Review

Steven B 1d If you like dark or black humor, this is for you. It's not Fargo, but the throw away lines are what made it for me " is our father John Wick,no but our mom might be". Ok,not the perfect quote but made me laugh. See more Cristian s 2d Una muy grata sorpresa. Buena película de accion con una historia simple pero atrapante, buenos giros y una gran dosis de humor liviano que se puede disfrutar tanto solo como en familia. En el tercer tramo el personaje de Christina Ricci se roba la pantalla pero mal. See more Shonyell L 5d I actually liked it. It shouldn't have the teenager in it, just made annoying to watch. For some reason they think it's cute to have a cursing teenagers in movies, its not. Other than that, it was a good movie. Seeing Kevin James and Christina Ricci doing something different was fun to watch it is an action comedy. See more alan G. @agenser Dec 13 Why do mefiocre tv actors like Kevin James pr Steve Carell think they can make movies? See more Keith B B @Okbullard Dec 12 I really enjoyed this one and it was so strange seeing Kevin James as a bad guy. There was humor and plenty of action. I particularly liked the twist near the end. It's definitely worth the watch. See more Austin F @UNKNOWN635 Dec 11 Not too bad. In some parts the acting is just over played in my opinion. Like who kills a mob bosses nephew and thinks I’m good, just gonna go to bed and he definitely won’t retaliate. I like action movies to be realistic and that’s just not it. Not a movie critic by far but that’s just what I thought. And can directors please stop making it seem like car doors can stop a bullet!! See more Read all reviews
