Linda Marric HeyUGuys Guns Up is solid proof that a familiar story, told with grit and heart, can be enough. It’s an undeniable victory for Kevin James, who proves that he can pull off an action hero. It's entertaining if, admittedly, not too deep. Rated: 3/5 Aug 13, 2025 Full Review Siddhant Adlakha Variety For a film with a name like “Guns Up,” there’s surprisingly little by way of armed shootouts until the final act. For a tale of a family man moonlighting as a mob enforcer, the story and action lack the urgency suggested by its one-last-job premise. Jul 19, 2025 Full Review Peter Sobczynski RogerEbert.com While there are several problems with the film as a whole, perhaps the central one is that there are long stretches where viewers are expected to take the concept at least somewhat seriously, which proves impossible. Rated: .5/4 Jul 18, 2025 Full Review Laura Potier Outtake Mag At just over 90 minutes, Guns Up still manages to drag, never committing to either heartfelt family drama or pulpy, over-the-top violence. Rated: 2/5 Sep 1, 2025 Full Review Lapacazo Magrira Sandoval New York Amsterdam News Is it perfect? No. Some jokes miss. Some action sequences feel too choreographed, too clean for the stakes they’re meant to carry. But what lingers is the film’s heart. Aug 25, 2025 Full Review Benjamin Gummery Indie Mac User A fun action/comedy romp with surprising performances from Kevin James and Christina Ricci. Audience Member I mainly watched this coz of Kevin James and tbh I absolutely loved this movie. It shows ya that big budget action films flop most of the time weather these low budget action films do well Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/02/25 Full Review Farah R This year has illuminated that the action genre is far more entertaining in mid-budget movies than big studio productions. Guns Up might have a familiar plot, but it's executed sincerely, and that's key to any project's success. Kevin James takes on a different role, proving he can play an action hero. The movie is fast-paced, funny, and overall enjoyable. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/22/25 Full Review Ryan Y. Silly. Which you have to expect going into. Right? So yeah. It is exactly what you think it will be if you know the territory. Some corny, violent fun. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/16/25 Full Review Alex M I hadn't heard about this movie but I saw a blu ray of it in Walmart and bought it,mainly because it stars Christina Ricci, who I love and have actually met in 2020,and I love her movies.I was pleasantly surprised by this because it was entertaining and while not a tremendous movie,it was aan nteresting take on a gangster movie, and actually a dark comedy. The only unrealistic aspect was all the shooting and not one cop shows up. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/14/25 Full Review Giorgio G Well, what can I say?! It's not as much comedy as one expects, and there are some long dull stretches (made even worse by the fact that Kevin has never been much of an actor in my opinion), but when there is action it is very good John Wick style action, often rather on the funny side. The best parts are when Christina joins the action and fighting. I had a good time, considering that I had to watch it in the afternoon (really not my movie time) as there is only one cinema in all of São Paulo, with only one session (at 15:45, being rather a kiddie hour, which really does not fit the violence of this flick). Anyway: 6/10 points! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/09/25 Full Review James C Just overall a disappointment. Thankfully I didn't pay to see this. It truly was a broken script.
