This Bollywood crime thriller directed by Rajiv Ral is one that is very rare, most notably because of its genre - we are used to seeing Hindi cinema being fun, have great music and lots of terrific dancing, but can also be serious as well and this film sets an absolutely perfect example. However despite the genre of the film, there was still enough room to fit in at least one song-and-dance number.
The story concerns a governor who is murdered. His son must prove his innocence, after he becomes the prime suspect. Bobby Deol gives one of his best performances in his role as Sahil Sinha, the man who will do everything he can in order to prove he is completely innocent of murder after he found holding a knife covered in blood.
Manisha Koirala is very good in her role as Sheetal, the woman who Sanil falls in love with, while Kajol is absolutely superb in her role as Isha, the daughter of Sanil and she expressed that this was one of the most difficult roles of her career. But I believe she was up to the challenge and she very successfully pulled it off.
There is very solid support to be had from Om Puri as Udham Singh, the police officer investigating the case, while Raj Babbar is also good in his role as the Governor Jaisingh Sinha.
It's one mystery that can keep you guessing until the near end, but even then the film works because of the very tense atmosphere until the last second rolls. The direction from Ral is solid throughout and the script is very well written by the director and Shabbir Boxwala.
Some of the film is captured very well through the excellent camerawork and on some occasions you do have to watch very carefully because of shots happening in less than a second. Also, some of the film can be a little disturbing at times due to the violence but this is part of the story so therefore it has to be included otherwise it wouldn't be worth viewing. The film managed to win three Filmfare awards for its background score, editing and Best Villain.
Overall, this is one very well-acted and very suspenseful mystery that is really worth watching and although it has some gore, the suspense keeps you on the edge-of-your-seat until the very end. It is certainly the best Bollywood thriller to be made in the year of this release.

Interesting, entertaining, is one of the best mystery/suspense movies of Bollywood and every actor has done a great job in the movie. The only bad things were, the three-hour run-time, a few badly written dialogues, and a few silly moments.

First off, Kajol and Manisha made this movie great. With Manisha having an angelic personality, and with Kajol being basically bipolar, the movie was very interesting. The songs of the movie were great, and I felt that the first half of the movie was okay, but the last part made the movie very exciting and everything came into place by the end of the movie. Kajol won best villain back in '98 for a very good reason, and this movie proves it! Watch it if you want to see a good thrill and good acting!
