Rated: 3/4 Sep 19, 2020 Full Review Alejandro Turdó Hoy Sale Cine Gutterbug tells a story of sex, drugs and Rock N' Roll gone the wrong way. It occasionally goes to extremes just to prove its point: no matter how bad things can get, there's always hope Rated: 7/10 Sep 16, 2020 Full Review Matthew Turner VODzilla.co A smartly directed, superbly acted and emotionally engaging indie drama that marks out writer-director Andrew Gibson as a potential talent to watch. Sean A Poor acting, cheesy and unimaginative. The protagonist looks like he stepped off the cat walk for the entire film. Watch it if you don't have anything else in the world to occupy yourself with. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/25/24 Full Review Ian F While it nails being a homeless drug addict in your early adulthood, the punk scene they create is very cartoonish and it distracts from what could have been a good movie Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/22/23 Full Review Audience Member It was slow and lacked grit Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member this was really great. although not all aspects of it are a realistic portrayal of homelessness, it was in general well written. some things it gets wrong: not everyone is doing whatever substance they can find, and this guy who was just selling any and every substance available is not a realistic dealer - unless they only sell weed, they would probably only have crack, amphetamine, or heroin the vast majority of the time, not all these random pills. pharmaceuticals are more expensive and harder to acquire than street drugs. due to a lot of them coming from substance abusing parents or family members, plenty of homeless people are dead sober, although almost everyone smokes weed or cigs. a surprising number of homeless people don't drink. usually the reason they are homeless is worse than a little bit of domestic abuse or marriage issues, and tbqh the level of recklessness seen in this film is not in any way common, but the general day-to-day grind of panhandling and loitering is quite accurate. most homeless people are acutely aware that they are more likely to suffer consequences for their actions than another person, and therefore would not steal a car or rob a store. the shoplifting was 100% accurate, although in my experience crusty punks are considerate enough not to take advantage of a disabled person. this gets a lot of things right, and i thoroughly enjoyed it, but i still think it's more of a fantasy of loss and retribution than a realistic portrayal of homelessness, and in some ways may present problematic views on these topics to more privileged people. i sort of doubt that kind of person would watch this one anyways, so it probably doesn't matter too much Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member THIS is how to shoot a live-music scene for film... Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman need to take a lesson from Gutterbug. I'm a punk-rock fan, and the live scene with Nice Guys could not have been done better. Amazing job!
