      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Zombie shows flashes of vision in the follow-up to his Halloween reboot, but they're smothered by mountains of gore and hackneyed, brutal violence.

Luis c G this movie also sucks like the first Rob zombie one but if it was tackled by living pile of bullshit and it's worse than the first one 0/10 Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/24 Full Review Thomas K A sequel to another saga can be defined in its own independent way but... Halloween II is the worst sequel to the 2007 remake of Halloween. It has too little atmosphere and above all a horrible acting atmosphere. Rob Zombie is a director like any other, but he put details in this film that were too boring and meaningless, such as the spirit of Michael Myers' mother who orders her son to kill his sister Laurie. In fact Rob Zombie took on some features of Friday the 13th. The ending makes no sense, because the fact is that Michael dies like a normal person, given that he was supposed to be a resistant and ferocious character as we all know him. I have never liked the Loomis actor with an unemotional, synthetic and weak character. Halloween II of 2009 for me is one of the worst horror films I've ever seen. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/06/24 Full Review Emilliano Jr S I'm expecting more for momentous ending. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/26/24 Full Review Alec B Retroactively makes Zombie's first Halloween better (especially if you're watching the director's cut of this one) as it becomes clear that what really interests him is trauma. Yes the violence is grotesque and the performances are often too over the top, but it all keeps circling back to a real exploration of grief at it's most brutal. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/05/24 Full Review Diana S Zombie's remake of the original was okay, in my opinion, but I found this one much freer and more interesting, creatively. The brutal violence is what you expect with slasher movies and we know Rob Zombie will always take it to the max. I'm not a huge fan of that part, but it does reflect the sickness of the violent psychopathic mind accurately, and isn't that kind of the point? Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/31/23 Full Review Matt H This sequel maintains everything we didn't like about his first, but with even worse subplots and characters with the missing charm Rob Zombie is known for that makes this atrocious. Aja Romano Vox Extends this interest in psychology to Laurie Strode (played this time by Scout Taylor-Compton), plumbing the emotional and psychological connection between her and Michael. Oct 19, 2018 Full Review Keith Uhlich Time Out Zombie remains committed to showing how violence lingers with, and perverts, all who are touched by it Rated: 3/5 Nov 17, 2011 Full Review Perri Nemiroff CinemaBlend At one point in the film, a character is accused of "profiteering off the miseries of others" and that is exactly what Zombie will do to you if you see this movie. Rated: 1/5 Aug 13, 2010 Full Review Trace Thurman Horror Queers Podcast An ambitious, if flawed, sequel whose biggest accomplishment is having the most authentic portrayal of Final Girl PTSD ever seen in a horror film. (Director's Cut) Rated: 3/5 Oct 30, 2023 Full Review Joe Lipsett Horror Queers Podcast Halloween 2 has its problems, but the all-star cast is doing great work, and the film has a surprisingly nuanced consideration of Final Girl PTSD. Rated: 3.5/5 Oct 25, 2023 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Zombie's latest features no redeemable characters, gruesome violence that takes precedence over character development, and leaves the viewer feeling detached and unsettled, but not in a good way.
