      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

You'd have to be high to dig Half Baked's half baked production and scattershot sense of humor -- although maybe that was the point of this Dave Chapelle-led joint.

Christian S Look, you got to be high to like this movie. That being said it's one of the best pothead movies of all-time... Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/13/23 Full Review M R This is an underrated gem! You don't even have to be a stoner to enjoy it. The cast is awesome and the comedy hilarious. I believe Dave Chappelle once said he's kinda of ashamed of this film. I believe the critics may have got to him. But they are wrong half the time. "Half Baked" is a goofy comedy and it won't be for everyone as the sense of humor has a narrow appeal. But if you get it, you will thoroughly enjoy it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/30/23 Full Review StephenPaul C LOL, the funniest 01 hour: and 24 minutes ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Starring Dave Chappelle as a drug user!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In memory of Paul Money from Comedy Central's Chappelle's Show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/09/23 Full Review Red T I'm reviewing this sober which more than likely has a HUGE effect on my rating. The acting is just ok. There isn't much depth to any characters besides Thurgood somewhat. But the acting all has a strange quirky charm that gives it energy and some chemistry that keeps you entertained enough. The narration is constant and gets annoying as you just wish they'd show it on screen. Also the villain just appears about 75% of the way through out of nowhere and is forgettable. The jokes are 90% weed related and some are more clever than others but a lot just fall flat or are outright stupid and pointless. The cinematography is not that good sober. A lot of the wide shots and some really dumb scenes are designed to be watched high and I can't imagine how trippy they look than. But there just stupid otherwise. All the shots have lots of colors too so that's one point for the film. The music isn't that good either, most of the time its just boring and generic but occasionally you'll get a watered down song from a famous film that makes you just wish you were watching that instead sometimes. The editing and pacing are not that good. (Better in the first half) Things just happen half the time as we just get narration about the different kinds of weed smokers for most of the middle of the film. And the energy starts to run out towards the last 25 minutes or so. I'm certain this is designed to watch being high. But besides that I can't recommend this to anyone else besides die hard Dave Chapelle fans or Hardcore Stoner Film fans. Skip It otherwise.
