What to Know

Critics Consensus

Halloween 4: The Return Of Michaels Myers may bring the series' masked killer back into the fold, but fails to offer the visceral scares and inventiveness of the original.

Chris Stuckmann ChrisStuckmann.com You can tell that it felt very rushed and things were kind of clobbered together to make this movie at the last second. Rated: C+ Nov 1, 2019 Full Review Aja Romano Vox I need to state for the record that Donald Pleasence is a truly great actor... But he also loved to chew the scenery, and the middle period of the Halloween franchise gave him plenty to sink his teeth into. Oct 19, 2018 Full Review Variety Staff Variety Fourth entry in the Halloween horror series is a no-frills, workmanlike picture. Aug 27, 2007 Full Review Kat Halstead Common Sense Media This fourth installment takes all the elements of the iconic first film and splices them together in what feels like a rushed-off imitation. Rated: 3/5 Oct 27, 2025 Full Review Bryce Hanson Horror Movie Talk This is the first Halloween movie where I kind of get it. Once they allow Michael Myers to poke a hole in a skull with his thumb… the series has turned a corner. Now he’s not just a guy with a knife, his hands are knives too! Rated: 7/10 Sep 23, 2025 Full Review Patrick Cavanaugh The Wolfman Cometh Embraces Halloween iconography a bit more heavily than other installments and having a young character serve as the protagonist breaks the mold but is otherwise a repetitive, dull snooze. Hugo T. I feel Halloween 4 did a good job bringing Michael Myers back Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/01/25 Full Review Melissa L This was not as good as the others...when Jamie Lee Curtis is not in the movie, it's not really Halloween. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/29/25 Full Review Mania I. A rather disappointing return of Michael Myers. And almost like a retelling of the original movie in some way full circle kind of thing going. The storyline is stretched a little bit. Donald Pleasence is back and top form hamming it up as he usually does. It's not bad really but it isn't great. Good strong debut from Daniel Harris. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 10/28/25 Full Review Isaac K. Definitely a good horror movie but mask just looked weird Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/26/25 Full Review Brenden D A Refreshing Realistic Return To The Franchise With An Ending That Just Leaves Your Jaw Dropped Getting The Rough Edges Out Of The Way; Does That Mask Look Bad..... Yes. Is It A Bummer That Lorrie Was Killed Off Screen...... Yes. Is It Far-Fetched Loomis & Michael Both Survived..... Yes. Does It Have The Same Suspenseful Edge As The Original..... Of Course Not. However, This Is A Very Underappreaciated Halloween Film. The Town Has Been Affected By The Events Of The First Film And It Shows With How They Respond To The Return Of Michael Myers. The Mythodical Dismanteling Of The Town's Defenses & Power Is Brilliant. The Threat Is Taken Seriously. Rachel & Jamie Are FANTASTIC Additions To The Franchise & Make For Great Final Girls. The Town Mob Story Is Done Much Better Here Than In Halloween Kills. They Get The Wrong Guy, But Make Up For It At The End With The Big Save. The Kills Are Still Good, The Tension Is Still There Even If It's Not As Strong As The First Film. AND THAT ENDING...... THAT ENDING....... MADE.... THE MOVIE!!!! The Ending Is Brilliant And I Just Wish They Continued With This Story For Halloween 5, And I Still Hope Someday Someone Does A Proper Sequel. It Can Be Very Easily Done! A Solid Halloween Film B- 7.6/10 Every Horror & Halloween Fan Needs To See This Gem.
