      Critics Consensus

Halloween: H2O is the best of the many sequels, yet still pales in comparison to the original Halloween.

James B Not a fan of the masks especially the CGI one but this film is way better than the previous movies except h6 because I just like it. This movie is more unpredictable than it's predecessors which is what the franchise needs to be more of. Truly a special 20 year anniversary. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/03/24 Full Review Snuggly How annoying laurie strode's boyfriend is! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/26/24 Full Review Emilliano Jr S The best sequel of the franchise in 20 years Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/24/24 Full Review Ben T Jamie Lee Curtis returns to the role which made her a star two decades ago. Ignoring the previous three films, this a follow on from Halloween II. It's a good thin too as the series had become old and stale after the sixth entry. Although it's not in the same league as the original, it's a huge improvement. Also appearing is Janet Leigh, mother of Jamie Lee Curtis and best known for her role in Hitchcock's classic Psycho. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/24 Full Review Jeff M With the obvious exception of the very first film, which is a stone cold masterpiece, this is my favorite HALLOWEEN movie. At less than 90 minutes, it moves at a quick pace and feels very economically made without a lot of unnecessary excess. And it refreshingly doesn't take itself too seriously. So many horror movies these days are without any humor, and they become relentlessly unbearable. This not only has a light tone at times but some deliciously clever tributes to its preceding films and other horror movies in general, most notably PSYCHO. Janet Leigh's presence here is inspired, and it's a treat to watch her share scenes with her daughter. This installment is also blessed with a rather impressive and eclectic cast - featuring early screen performances by Harnett and Williams to LITTLE MAN TATE himself Adam Hann-Byrd and other familiar faces. But at the center, as always, is Curtis, who wears Laurie Strode like a glove and isn't afraid to be a bit bitter and unlikable here. I'm not a HALLOWEEN expert, but to my knowledge, this movie has no bearing in the latest incantations HALLOWEEN KILLS and the upcoming HALLOWEEN ENDS. If it does, I'd be curious how Michael Myers' survival after the final scene here could possibly be explained. I don't use the adjective "FUN" in describing many horror motion pictures, but this one earns it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/21/24 Full Review Willie V I found this film to be one of the stronger sequels in the franchise, due to it embracing the more traditional slasher approach. However, this also means it inherits both the positives and negatives associated with the slasher genre. On the positive side, Jamie Lee Curtis delivers a great performance as she usually does, portraying a trauma well, providing the audience with a strong lead to route for. Michael Myers, as expected, continues to be iconic, even if his mask is not great. On the negative side, many supporting characters lack the depth of Jamie Lee's role, and the predictability of who lives and dies is unfortunate. While the writing isn't great, the film is entertaining enough to watch. Overall, it's a slasher sequel from the '90s, which makes sense for those familiar with the slasher genre. Aja Romano Vox H20 is far more character-driven than any of its predecessors.
