Jason Shawhan Nashville Scene Despite being able to see the narrative beats coming a reel or two away, there's something about this film that compels the viewer to stick with it, and it does some very provocative things with its reveals. Sep 8, 2021 Full Review Roger Moore Movie Nation A no-budget Canadian thriller that comes oh-so-close to being the "Little Horror Engine that Could." Rated: 2/4 Oct 23, 2020 Full Review Carla Hay Culture Mix Halloween Party is a horror movie that bit off more than it could chew ... Most of the movie's acting is so bad, it's more cringe-inducing than the movie's intended scares. Oct 23, 2020 Full Review Bobby LePire Film Threat Look, Halloween Party is not scary, and as a horror movie, that is a problem. But, the characters are engaging and fun, brought to life by a wonderful cast. Rated: 7/10 Oct 4, 2020 Full Review Kat Hughes THN Halloween Party has a lot going for it: some great dialogue, insane ideas (vagina spiders folks), and some genuinely likeable lead characters. Rated: 3/5 Sep 3, 2019 Full Review Anton Bitel SciFiNow With its characters who, after encountering a strange meme, must race the clock against their own impending doom, Halloween Party marries the fatalistic tensions of Ring to the amiable student banter that Dahl had already honed in There Are Monsters. Jeff M The basic premise of this horror movie is potentially very interesting, and there are some genuinely scary moments in the first 20 minutes or so, particularly for those of you who may have an aversion to swine. Unfortunately, the filmmakers have no idea where to go with the concept, and it quickly devolves into a ludicrous experience that becomes increasingly boring and - crime of crimes - not the least bit scary. That's such a shame, because I truly think the idea behind this film, admitting to your greatest fear and being punished for not being truthful, is rather fascinating, and there are a hundred interesting ways to go with it. But here we get bogged down in a preposterous plot involving the demonic spirits of deformed kids that doesn't make a lick of sense. Groening and Thomason give likable performances - I was particularly taken by Thomason, who has a nerdy Justin Timberlake-like quality. But they aren't given a decent script with which to work, and they get lost in the nonsense of it all. I often check out Rotten Tomatoes after I've made up my mind on a movie, and this somehow mustered a 67% approval rating, remarkably high for a movie of this kind. Apparently they're seeing something I'm not. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/10/24 Full Review Fleegle B Good movie but not what I thought it was. I thought it was gonna be a slasher movie because the DVD cover makes it look like that Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/27/24 Full Review Beau M I can live with poor acting if the story is decent. But the plot made zero sense. I have no idea what the heck I just watched. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/25/23 Full Review Mara P The movie had some originality to it. It had the scare effect...jumpy moments. I liked the storyline and characters. There is a little bit of corny parts later on like some of fears that transformed went into the mode of this could have been made differently and not goofy. But, overall I liked it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/11/23 Full Review jon c It's the ultimate party full of actual terror An invite to a Halloween party for college students Grace and Zoe goes viral It asks for the persons worst fear and saves the answers Once the party starts for the students little do they know their phobias are actually coming to life These entities are accidentally released tormenting invitees The movie's pacing is pretty lackluster, there's a lot of time sleuthing what's actually happening, and some of these digital effects are kinda photoshop level It would've been better if most if this wasn't filmed during the day and there's narrative beats you can sense coming from a mile away These two actors are likable though despite having to spout out bad dialogue But the movie has some insane ideas not to mention some nightmarish makeup effects working to its advantage Plus the creepiest portion is at the very end involving navigating dark corridors underneath the college This just could've been so much better in many respects Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review jackson r It was ok in some parts but not very scary Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
