In New York City, architect Michael (Gene Wilder) takes a cab with stranger Sara (Kathleen Quinlan) and is talked into mailing a package for her. But Michael doesn't know the package contains secret military documents, and, when Sara is murdered, he becomes a suspect, pursued by cops and government man Ransom (Richard Widmark). On the run, he meets Kate (Gilda Radner), whose brother's death was somehow connected to the package. She helps him evades the cops, but Ransom is harder to shake.

...the first half of Hanky Panky is a decent showcase for Wilder at a high level of manic- ness, contrasted by a workday thriller scenario involving missing tapes, secret agents, and an ‘in the wrong movie’ 50’s hood in the shape of Richard Widmark

Hanky Panky is all over the place with comedy, romance, and random mystery. The plot isn't well put together, the movie staying afloat with its humor. I thought it was terrible unless your into older rom-coms with some thriller involved.

Synopsis
