In 1980s India, Shazia Bano's world falls apart when her husband, Abbas, abandons her and their three children after marrying a second time. At first, Abbas agrees to pay monthly maintenance for their children, but when he stops, Bano takes the bold step of going to court. In response, Abbas tries to silence her by pronouncing triple talaq. What begins as her personal struggle soon grows into a national debate about faith, women’s rights, and justice. Bano's courage turns her into a symbol of resistance against patriarchy. Inspired by the landmark Supreme Court of India judgment in Shah Bano vs. Ahmed Khan, Haq is the story of an Indian woman's fight for her rights.

Shubhra Gupta The Indian Express ‘Haq’ does what it sets out to do with clear-eyed empathy, giving us an ordinary woman who found extraordinary strength and resilience to fight for her cause, and created, without ever quite realising it, history. Rated: 3.5/5 Nov 5, 2025 Full Review Shilajit Mitra The Hollywood Reporter India Well-intentioned but reductive. Nov 11, 2025 Full Review Carla Hay Culture Mix Haq is a divorce drama that drags on for a little too long (136 minutes), but it’s worth watching for its meaningful depiction of a real-life landmark case of an Indian woman fighting for her rights to alimony and child support. Nov 9, 2025 Full Review Nandini Ramnath Scroll.in The movie’s mission to rescue hapless Muslim women from the clutches of hidebound men is relatively restrained and explored through relatable characters. Nov 8, 2025 Full Review Sreeju Sudhakaran LatestLY.com Yami Gautam’s powerful performance is the only thing that keeps this courtroom from collapsing under its own moral posturing. Rated: 2.5/5 Nov 7, 2025 Full Review Devesh Sharma Filmfare Haq is a reminder that clarity, reason and moral courage can indeed be cinematic. Watch it for its sincerity, for its grace, for its argument but above all, watch it for the performances that give this battle a beating, breathing human heart.
