But it receives 3 and 1/2 stars because of the excellent acting, and the unusual photography; a greenish/yelllow/black palette (almost like "Batman") which somehow adds to the grittiness of the story. It is also a scathing commentary on the state of the British lower classes, with their generational benefits dependency and hopelessness in gritty council estate ghettos. But as well, it focuses on the state of British policing, which seems more interested in political posing than solving the issues that plague the society. This one is a vigilante justice that gets away with murder because of the incompetent of the police force that was in charge of catching the criminal in the first place. The characters are a bit cliche but that's an inevitability in about all vigilante movies. Still, Michael Caine makes any character unique.
