Audience Member Off & dull. Karena Lam was regarded as one outstanding & promising actress in the last decade. I, however, somehow found her acting is so awkward- not really bad, but just feeling odd. Most of the film's merits comes down to the competent writing of Theresa Tang, but the chemistry between it's two leads are also a major advantage. Ekin Cheng have recently excelled in these more mature parts, and Karena Lam displays some newfound self esteem, redeeming past mistakes in a big way. The lives of these successful urban young folks might seem alienating at first, but bearing the mark of truly great commercial cinema, It Had To Be You manages to lure the viewer into it's world. Rated 3/5 Stars •  Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member I guess I've been on a bit of a Ekin Cheng binge. Another cheap romance from Hong Kong. I guess it had a heart and I find these movies the kind of things you watch in a hotel room in Las Vegas while your friends are out gambling and you just want to chill out for a couple of hours. There's not much to say, girl meets boy at the restaurant they're working at. They both have relationships with people who are in relationships, and they steadily try to sway their lovers to leave their perspective lovers but to no avail. They start seeing each other as more complimentary and fall in love. Not revolutionary, but the story revolves around food and restaurants, so it's a plus if you like that kind of stuff.
