Critics Consensus

An anemic crime saga punctuated with bravura action sequences, Havoc may feel like a retread of director Gareth Evans' past glories but, for audiences addicted to his balletic style, the formula still rips.

Evans may wade into deeper waters here — grappling with morality, loyalty, and personal failure — but he never loses sight of what he does best: delivering chaos with craft. A brutal reminder of why Evans remains one of action cinema’s most vital voices. Go to Full Review

To reach its apotheotic, five-star display of action wrapped in the aura of masters like John Woo or Johnnie To, a price has to be paid in the form of technical — and, to a lesser extent, narrative — excesses. Go to Full Review

Gareth Evan’s just really wants to punch things, shoot at others, and blow things up. It is as if Evan’s is pitching himself to Rockstar should they ever want a Grand Theft Auto movie. Go to Full Review

Harry D @T-Hoppy 8h This was a really bad movie. I’m so disappointed with Gareth Evans after how exceptional the first season of Gangs of London was. What an absolute shambles of a film See more Zachary W. @zwhiteman08 15h I’m so sick of strong female leads being shoved in out faces. . It’s annoying. Now 2 woman are running Asian groups now and ☠️☠️☠️ everyone? The silly lawyer and CEO in Landman. Beth Dutton fighting grown men and scaring them? Enough is enough. See more Barrie M 17h One of only a handful of films I stopped watching before the end, in this case as it's just absurdly pointless. The film starts poorly and gradually gets worse as a weak, old school formula action plot introduces cartoon character good guys, bad guys.. and a few where it's brutally obvious they'll switch sides in the "twist". The result is one-dimensional at best. It's not even a case of "so bad it's good" .. or even ok. While The Raid was a breakthrough in the ultra-unbelievable-violence and gun-porn genre, this just feels like an even more dumbed down John Wick flick for an audience who only look up from their phones when the guns start blasting and henchmen are filled with bullets - in slow motion with blood everywhere, of course. Regular characters all of a sudden turn into martial arts experts, happily hacking away at a swarming enemy. It's just silly. I made it over three quarters in, largely bored and often rolling eyes. What a waste. Hardy, Whitaker and Olyphant, do better. See more Alaia B. @C137LayLay 20h Great movie Action-Packed with a lot of Gore Tom Hardy did not disappoint. See more Liam D @Mediawatcher2003 22h Gareth Evans first film in 8 years is an very box standard crime thriller but it has those electrifying action sequences that he is known for and Tom Hardy actually delivering a good performance in a while See more Keremtex @Keremtex 2d Following the triumphs of Raid 1 and 2, Gareth Evans propelled Gangs of London into the stratosphere of visceral action, satiating enthusiasts with his unparalleled cerebral and visual ingenuity. Yet, the Netflix blockbuster Havoc—anticipated for two years under that lofty banner—proved a profound disillusionment. Its visual palette, oppressively tenebrous, exacerbates rather than elucidates the inherently bleak narrative, evoking the technical affliction of a dimmed projector whose lumen output has been throttled. Characters remain woefully underdeveloped, rendering inquiries into their identities, locales, motivations, and temporal contexts utterly inconsequential; this paucity swiftly transmutes the film into a mere music video montage. Regrettably, it stands among the most egregious cinematic disappointments of recent years. See more Read all reviews
