Critics Consensus

An anemic crime saga punctuated with bravura action sequences, Havoc may feel like a retread of director Gareth Evans' past glories but, for audiences addicted to his balletic style, the formula still rips.

Evans may wade into deeper waters here — grappling with morality, loyalty, and personal failure — but he never loses sight of what he does best: delivering chaos with craft. A brutal reminder of why Evans remains one of action cinema’s most vital voices. Go to Full Review

To reach its apotheotic, five-star display of action wrapped in the aura of masters like John Woo or Johnnie To, a price has to be paid in the form of technical — and, to a lesser extent, narrative — excesses. Go to Full Review

Gareth Evan’s just really wants to punch things, shoot at others, and blow things up. It is as if Evan’s is pitching himself to Rockstar should they ever want a Grand Theft Auto movie. Go to Full Review

A relentless opera of carnage that’s simultaneously cathartic in its adrenaline-fueled bloody violence that grows cartoonishly over-the-top, and artful in its poetry of slow-motion and precise, balletic movements that are plucked straight out of John Woo. Go to Full Review

Bryan K @RT65161629 4d The Tarantino-esque blood spurting is ridiculous. Too much going on. Mildly entertaining. See more Casimer T @Sadboiturtles 5d Only 30 minutes in and its bad car chases look like the race in Ready player one and it was better in that film since it was based on video games. fight senses are so shaky i feel woozy here... film is not good id rather watch 329 main event again But the action and blood make me giggle its a okay film to put on See more Ritesh S @RT32865895 Jun 29 Gareth Evans’ signature style is on full display in Havoc: blistering fast cuts, propulsive narrative flow, and outrageously choreographed action sequences that deliver the raw, kinetic energy fans have come to expect. The film opens with impressive tightness—sharp cinematography, crisp editing, and relentless momentum. Set over a day, the story quickly escalates from a contained setup into an all-out internal war involving corrupt cops, rival gangs, and a desperate young couple caught in the crossfire. While Havoc isn’t a masterpiece, it stands out as a refreshing, high-octane thrill ride in an era dominated by Hollywood’s often pretentious and uninspired output. A few supporting performances lean into over-the-top territory, but this fits the film’s exaggerated tone and remains largely forgivable. The ending, however, goes off the rails. That minor stumble aside, Havoc is a thoroughly entertaining, adrenaline-fueled ride that delivers exactly what it promises. See more John A @RT22729218 Jun 25 Great hordes of bad guys kept appearing out of nowhere all to be cut down by automatic weapons with endless supplies of ammunition. Also lots of guys with machetes and martial arts skills so bad that nearly every swing was a miss and the "good guys" had the amazing ability to duck every machete and cleaver, even the ones they couldn't have seen coming. And, Spoiler Alert, one bad cop was still going strong after having been shot 35 times and finally went down after 85 more rounds, but amazingly was still gasping for air! Wow! See more Paul S @PManRager Jun 22 I felt it lacked substance, and you can definitely categorize this as your run-of-the-mill crime-thriller, but this movie was so much fun to watch. Every fight scene felt straight out of a video game, and it was absolutely mesmerizing. This is the perfect movie to just sit back, relax, and enjoy. I definitely recommend it for crime, action, and thriller fans! See more Lakeisha S @Lak678 Jun 10 Loud, aggressive, and ultimately hollow. Havoc lives up to its name, just not in a good way.
