Critics Consensus

An anemic crime saga punctuated with bravura action sequences, Havoc may feel like a retread of director Gareth Evans' past glories but, for audiences addicted to his balletic style, the formula still rips.

David Rooney The Hollywood Reporter If you’re looking for blood and viscera and creative hyper-violence to fuel your adrenaline rush, the movie delivers. May 2, 2025 Full Review Linda Marric HeyUGuys Evans may wade into deeper waters here — grappling with morality, loyalty, and personal failure — but he never loses sight of what he does best: delivering chaos with craft. A brutal reminder of why Evans remains one of action cinema’s most vital voices. Rated: 4/5 May 2, 2025 Full Review Craig Mathieson The Age (Australia) ...the fight choreography is unflinching and exact, the mayhem sublimely staged. Rated: 3.5/5 May 1, 2025 Full Review Pablo O. Scholz Clarín Havoc...is that kind of action film in which the scenes of violence, of combat...are so exaggerated and ruthless, so bloody and so cruel, that they're the dish more than one viewer awaits to be served via streaming. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 3/4 Jun 9, 2025 Full Review Mark Meszoros The News-Herald (Willoughby, OH) The nifty action sequences are not enough to recommend “Havoc,’ even if it’s just a few clicks of your smart TV’s remote away. Beverley S If you’re looking for character development, compelling storytelling, or even a semblance of plot—this isn’t the movie for you. Instead, brace yourself for over 90 minutes of relentless gunfire, explosions, and slow-motion standoffs that try to pass for drama. The action sequences are flashy, sure, but they feel like filler rather than fuel. There’s so much shooting it borders on the absurd, like the director decided that bullet casings count as character arcs. By the time the smoke clears, you’re left wondering: what exactly was the point? Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/23/25 Full Review James E Its action is exagerated but entertaining and makes for a fun gory time. Story telling and cinematagraphy is very enjoyavle and well crafted. Not the best out there but I would watch again down the road. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/23/25 Full Review Joan F. It was cool but I expected something like the redada 1 & 2 Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/22/25 Full Review Luc H Effing hell, this is dark stuff. An out-of-this-world Tom Hardy, Luis Guzmán who is (unfortunately) typecast (again), Timothy Olyphant, and a scary Forest Whitaker. Perfect score by a certain Aria Prayogi (unbeknown to me) and very much in sync with the film (bravo). Lavishly dark and sensual settings. But probably too gorey for its own good. The killing scenes are... Phew. That first scene with Cortez being... nah, don't let me spoil it for you. Rotten Tomatoes says "An anemic crime saga punctuated with bravura action sequences, Havoc may feel like a retread of director Gareth Evans' past glories but, for audiences addicted to his balletic style, the formula still rips." and I have no idea if this is a good or a bad thing. PS; Oh, I hope Tom lands the Bond ticket. And if you think he cannot handle the English distinguished look, watch him sport a Tux in Venom The Last Dance Full Movie Link. PS (2); funny detail. While the film was shot primarily in Wales, it manages to conjure up images of an unnamed fictional US city, featuring elements of Chicago, New York, and Philadelphia (such as an elevated train and a Chinatown district. Kudoz. (source: Wikipedia) Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/22/25 Full Review Jonathan F Unlimited ammo in guns... we doing this again? And only 4 people wipe out an entire triad? They can't land a single kill with automatic weapons and the heroes of the story just wrecking them with pistols and shotguns. Pretty dumb movie. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/22/25 Full Review Seanestro B Bad-freaking-ass. The director of The Raid (2011) and Tom Hardy in the lead. How could it not be?
