Meagan Navarro Bloody Disgusting Cognetti cleverly expands the mythology while returning to the atmospheric foreboding and scares that made the original film such a cult favorite in the first place. Rated: 3.5/5 Oct 25, 2023 Full Review Phil Hoad Guardian It isn’t just Cognetti’s solid deployment of the backstory that impresses; he and cinematographer Josh Layton also show a devious command of camera mechanics, vital to the subjective found-footage experience. Rated: 4/5 Oct 25, 2023 Full Review Bee Delores B-Sides & Badlands Hell House LLC Origins: The Carmichael Manor centers its story largely on those creepy clown mannequins — a genius move that allows filmmaker Stephen Cognetti to blanket the entire film in suffocating dread. Rated: 4/5 Jul 2, 2024 Full Review Josh Goller Spectrum Culture Cognetti has proven with Origins that, in an allegiance to and expansion of his source material, he’s not simply beating a dead house. Jun 4, 2024 Full Review Trace Thurman Horror Queers Podcast A return to form for the long-running Hell House LLC franchise, The Carmichael Manor is scary as hell. Rated: 4/5 Nov 27, 2023 Full Review Joe Lipsett Horror Queers Podcast The fourth film is the best in the franchise as Cognetti strikes a good balance between jump scares, mythology, and character development. The computer stalking bit with Rebecca and Chase's final video are masterful scare sequences. Rated: 4/5 Nov 21, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

Robert A Best Hell House LLC film since the first and may even be better than the original. Nobody can conjure up genuine discomfort and tense fear like Steven Cognetti. Even I sleep with the lights on after these movies. Nothing is scarier Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/20/24 Full Review John H The entire HellHouse series is really well done, and this is no exception. The spooks keep coming until the end. The movie is freaky, and will keep you on the edge of your seat the whole time. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/01/24 Full Review Alexandra M I haven’t hid under a blanket or peaked between my fingers in a long time… this one was good. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/28/24 Full Review Anthony R Hell House LLC Origins: The Carmichael Manor tries to recapture the magic of the franchise, but unfortunately, it misses the mark for a series that’s otherwise been so solid. For fans who loved the original trilogy’s gritty, indie feel, the shift to a more polished production under Shudder’s wing feels like a step back rather than forward. There’s something lost here—a kind of raw authenticity that made Hell House LLC feel real and immersive. This time around, the scares feel forced, and the story struggles to reach the same level of intrigue. That being said, they did get one thing right: the clown. In true Hell House fashion, that clown remains just as unnerving as ever. It’s that same eerie, silent presence that made it a staple of the franchise, and whenever it appears, it brings back a flash of the dread that made the earlier films so effective. But even with the clown’s creepy presence, the film doesn’t quite live up to the legacy it’s trying to expand on. Ultimately, The Carmichael Manor feels like it’s trying too hard to evolve the franchise, but the heart of Hell House LLC—that indie, low-budget horror magic—gets lost in translation. If you’re a fan of the series, it’s worth a watch for nostalgia’s sake and for that chilling clown, but if you’re looking for the same energy and suspense of the original trilogy, this one might fall a little flat. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/26/24 Full Review Audience Member my brother love movie!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/04/24 Full Review charlee w It was scary and creepy! But I think it leaned on the clown element for a lot of that. I wouldn’t watch again and Margo got everyone killed. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/09/24 Full Review Read all reviews
