Critics Consensus

Hell of a Summer shows some promising ingenuity from its young directorial duo, but its lack of tonal cohesion also indicates some room for improvement.

John Anderson Wall Street Journal [Hell of a Summer] manages to mine some fresh mirth out of the mayhem while lampooning a format’s classic conceits. It is a wisely cast film, too. Aug 28, 2025 Full Review Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News “Hell of a Summer” made me laugh and kept me thoroughly engaged. It’s no classic, but it’s still oddly charming and fun, and points to good things ahead for filmmakers Bryk and Wolfhard. Rated: 3/4 May 2, 2025 Full Review Adam Graham Detroit News "Hell of a Summer" is a clever tribute to summer camp movies. Rated: B- Apr 7, 2025 Full Review John Serba Decider More like Hell of a Bummer. Sep 2, 2025 Full Review Douglas Davidson Elements of Madness Even if the execution is lacking, there’s enough present to remain curious about what the co-directors do next. For now, though, rejoice that summer’s over. Rated: 2.5/5 Jul 31, 2025 Full Review Jeff Beck The Blu Spot Wanting to pay homage to classic slashers is one thing, but putting one together in as perfunctory a manner as this just makes it feel as though the filmmakers were being somewhat lazy copycats with no real inspiration behind it. Stoze It's pretty funny here and there. Had fun, but there definitely could've been more. Characters are great, but the movie is pretty bare bones. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 05/17/25 Full Review Nancy It was not the worst movie, but I would not pay to see it again. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/17/25 Full Review CJ Worst slasher movie i’ve seen and love slasher movies. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 04/16/25 Full Review Darius Definitely falsely advertised… a summer camp slasher that delivers none of what makes summer camp slashers so good in the first place.. also there was a light amount of gore, and I remember the trailer saying it was a gore fest Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/16/25 Full Review lissy ryan gosling mention !! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/15/25 Full Review Chanin Fun, modern twist on the classic camp counselor VS. slasher trope! Had some good kills along with quirky humor. Definitely will be appreciated the most by a younger crowd. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/15/25 Full Review Read all reviews
