Gabriel R I have to start off by saying, this script clearly was not written to be a Hellraiser film. This is a police investigation thriller with a few cenobites slapped in and a Hellraiserish ending. That being said, it is certainly not the worst movie I've ever watched. The twist is obvious but I didn't mind it. Doug Bradley is great. Watch it if you like Hellraiser and police thrillers, skip if you don't Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/15/24 Full Review Patrick K It's like watching a budget TV show. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/13/23 Full Review Simon F This one was actually kinda decent. It's not amazing but it's way better than the previous four and my favorite so far. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/17/22 Full Review Daniel C This was a fantastic movie. It shows how Pinhead can really torture somebody Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/16/22 Full Review john c One of the more interesting offerings in the Hellraiser franchise, this one takes a turn into the genre of supernatural psychological horror. A corrupt detective investigating a series of murders finds the Lament Configuration puzzle box, plays with it, and soon finds himself in a hell that's partly of his own making. While I appreciate the film trying something different, and while this is a much better film than the earlier low point of Hellraiser 3, it still has its problems. The protagonist is so thoroughly unlikeable (and made deliberately so by the film) that you'd be hard-pressed to care what happens to him, and you may even find yourself rooting for the cenobites to do their thing to him. In a sense, they do, but it's not what you might expect. The film also has the issue of Pinhead now apparently wanting to punish this man for his "sins", which is a complete break from his usual character and motivation. In the first two movies, he and the other cenobites are completely amoral "explorers in the furthest reaches of experience", more likely to be encouraging "sin" than punishing it (unless perhaps it was in a BDSM kind of way). Hellraiser is a better and even a smarter film that the critics' score would have you believe, but I enjoy it nowhere near as much as the first two movies in the franchise. Rated: 0/4 Oct 9, 2022 Full Review Tim Brayton Alternate Ending A movie whose heavy atmosphere might have been done better elsewhere, but it has a heavy atmosphere, and that's more than other Hellraiser sequels can claim.
