What to Know

Critics Consensus

Here Comes the Boom benefits from Kevin James's genial presence but the film doesn't deliver enough laughs to live up to its title -- or enough satisfying plot to make up the difference.

Roxana Hadadi Punch Drunk Critics The way James, Rutten, and Winkler connect is engaging and amusing, and Here Comes the Boom is moderately successful on that chemistry alone. And if something can crack my cold, cold heart, that's a victory. Rated: 3/5 Jan 9, 2017 Full Review William Goss Empire Magazine Ultimately, the film is much too derivative to stand (and deliver) on its own, but at its best moments, it proves amiably average, chiefly due to James' natural charms. Dec 15, 2013 Full Review Donald Clarke Irish Times Couldn't Kevin have raised the money by selling hard drugs or trafficking underage women? The closing scenes would, under those circumstances, have seemed only marginally less peculiar. Rated: 2/5 Nov 9, 2012 Full Review Cory Woodroof Lumination Network Give the film a try. It'll win you over before the credits roll. Feb 11, 2022 Full Review Cate Young Thirty, Flirty + Film "Here Comes The Boom isn't the best movie in the world (Creed and Creed II will get you beatings and a great story) but it's sentimental, gripping and funny." Mar 19, 2021 Full Review Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com I have no qualms about saying that anyone who appreciates Kevin James will unquestionably appreciate Here Comes the Boom. Frans B I think Frank Coraci did good here. Well written, very well brought to production. Heartwarming and highly entertaining. Kevin James, Salma Hayek and Henry Winkler plus the rest of iconic cast, all excels in character. Good cinematography and great action with a few witty moments. James showing his all round acting prowess. Great entertainment, no matter the "critics" score, highly recommended Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/16/25 Full Review donnie m i LOVED this movie for so many reasons-it's just ending and i have tears of emotion-good family movie Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/20/25 Full Review Mikie L This isn't rocket science, nor is it meant to be a deep character study. It's feel good, inspiration for doing the impossible, warm and fuzzy popcorn fun without the need to really think of it's underlying message, it's all right there. HELP THOSE YOU CAN, PLUS DONT TAKE YOURSELF TOO SERIOUSLY! Enjoyable with Kevin James as the lead, Henry Winkler as affable as ever, and the rest of the supporting cast playing their parts as intended. The aspiring soon to be US citizens are fun, the uninterested but soon to be motivated high school students, and everyone else along the way are all fun pieces of the puzzle. Don't overthink it, it's just meant to be a joyful and silly comedy movie, and it fully does it's job. Did we think The Goonies or Happy Gilmore were deep thought pieces of believable struggles to be overcome, or just a way to escape everyday stresses and have a good time? LOVE IT!! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/25/25 Full Review alan g Kevin James as a MMA fighter. Fat and out of shape. Just like this movie. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/29/25 Full Review Garry C Fantastic, funny, fun, good story, must watch with out destruction. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/23/25 Full Review Read all reviews
