Audience Member This film won the 1962 Best Short Subject Oscar. Fans of Chaplin and Harold Lloyd should check out Pierre Etaix. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member A gleeful comedy short focusing on the madness of the everyday, as seen through the eyes of a man and a woman, separately, on their anniversary. This was Pierre Etaix's second film and it has a much larger scope than his first (RUPTURE) despite its short running time. It makes use of many locations as the man (Etaix) attempts to get home quickly in order to have dinner with his wife. His obstacles are devious but stem from very ordinary human circumstances; they include traffic jams, parking and buying flowers. From these scenarios he weaves a series of well-orchestrated gags that are as observant as they are hysterical. The film is photographed beautifully and simply; his camera weaves in and out of his chaotic sequences artfully, paying close attention to the angles that will set up the funniest possible shots while also considering at all times the graceful look of the film. With this, only his second cinematic effort, Etaix cemented a talent that would unfortunately be lost some years later, buried behind legal matters. Luckily he has been rediscovered, and we have been given the gift of realizing his genius again. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Wonderful and extremely funny!
