The Seaver family arrives at San Francisco International Airport to catch a flight to Canada. They check in their pets: Chance (Michael J. Fox), an American bulldog; Shadow (Ralph Waite), a golden retriever; and Sassy (Sally Field), a nervous cat. But the confused pets burst out of their carriers and escape to the city. Kevin McManus Washington Post The tone is ideal for a family audience. The length is perfect. And the sequence of last-minute surprises elicits tears and laughter in just the right proportions. Apr 2, 2003 Full Review Hollis Chacona Austin Chronicle Rated: 2/5 Jan 1, 2000 Full Review Stephen Holden New York Times It does a better job than most family films in projecting a child's-eye view of a world where siblings and pets are equally cherished members of the family. Rated: 3/5 Jan 1, 2000 Full Review Mal Vincent The Virginian-Pilot It's all pretty routine, and it's highly predictable, but the little ones giggled heartily at the screening I attended, and the parents were diverted. Rated: 2/5 Dec 18, 2010 Full Review Greg Muskewitz eFilmCritic.com So pathetic, that the filmmakers are not above making gay jokes about animals in San Francisco! Student: Jake M This movie is totally terrific! I love it how they discovered the city and learned about kindness to escape from the blood red van and Ashcan and Pete. Shadow, Chance, and Sassy were lost in a city but curiously discovered new life and new adventures in order to go back home unlike the mountains. Delilah was very sweet and attractive to Chance in this movie but Bando won’t let her go. Riley’s gang successfully got rid of the blood red van. I give this movie a 100 out of 100. I wish there was a third Homeward Bound movie but this is the final installment of the Homeward Bound franchise. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/28/24 Full Review Betsy S not as good as the original, but it's not trying to be either. it does its job as a cute sequel, which is fine for kids. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/08/24 Full Review StephenPaul C The greatest 01 hour: and 28 minutes ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Featuring the voice of Steve Guttenberg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And the first movie's voice talents of Michael J. Fox as Chance, and Sally Field as Sassy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/17/23 Full Review Chris M There is only one reason this sequel exists. The first movie made money. If they had to make a sequel I wish they had a better story than Chance being annoying. Like the animals were take by taken. Looking at their property they obvious have some money. The animals break free of their captures and try to get through San Francisco that way. With kidnappers after them. That would worked better than the humans not sedating the animals, which is recommended. Or Chance's crate breaking open so fucking easily. Speaking of the villains, the street dogs are cliché and the roaming goons who sell any unattended dogs to illegal testing is creepy and felt tacked on. As they are barely in it. The animalnappers makes more sense. Plus this one is slower. But it's not horrible, just a step down from the first movie. It's funny and the animals are cute. It's still worth checking out, especially if you love the first one. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/16/23 Full Review Audience Member It was a pretty enjoyable and very fun Disney live-action movie sequel. It had very well done cinematography, very superb cast, really phenomenal characters, very good comedy, really exciting adventure, very cool action, really wonderful music and a very excellent story. It’s not as good as the first “Homeward Bound” movie, but I enjoyed it. Fans of “Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey” will enjoy this movie. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review derek l Homeward Bound's sequel doesn't exactly quite hit the heights of where the original was able to achieve.
