What to Know

Critics Consensus

Kevin Costner doesn't lack for ambition as he sketches this frontier saga across the widest of canvases, but Horizon's first chapter proves too diffuse in scope for it to satisfy as a self-contained endeavor.

Steve Pond TheWrap Horizon is big and bold and majestic, with cinematographer J. Michael Muro capturing those expansive Utah vistas and John Debney’s score making sure that the film sounds just like the Westerns that play in the heads of everybody... Aug 8, 2024 Full Review Peter Rainer FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) There's nothing original about it... But I thought it was a serviceable Western. Jul 13, 2024 Full Review Wenlei Ma The Nightly (AU) The three-hour epic is dull, frustrating and sleep-inducing. Rated: 2.5/5 Jul 12, 2024 Full Review Robin Holabird Robin Holabird Looking for the sweeping scope that personifies the full title’s concept of saga, Costner stumbles along the way as he cross cuts between places and characters, failing to make all connections clear. Nov 5, 2024 Full Review Grant Watson Fiction Machine Were this a limited television series it would be showered with awards. As a film, and much to my irritation now that I’m hooked in, it very likely is not even going to have an ending. Rated: 7/10 Oct 23, 2024 Full Review Erick Estrada Cinegarage A super emotive and impassioned movie that's incredibly well-made. [Full review in Spanish] Oct 7, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Andrew B Oooofff. All over the place and hard to follow. I had such high hopes. If chapter two is ever released, I may watch it out of morbid curiosity. This is a tough watch. He’s going to go broke on this valentine to himself. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/07/24 Full Review Ed Dull and slow and did not leave me anticipating the next chapter Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 09/24/24 Full Review Debbie R Omg! I love this movie, it is a long one and I thought I would get restless, but there was so much going on. It went too fast and I cant wait till the next saga. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/18/24 Full Review Cindy I really enjoy longer movies, especially at the theater. I like the storyline so far and the acting is what I have come to expect from a Kevin Costner film. The beauty of the landscapes are awesome as well. Am excited for the next installment.
