Costner's longtime passion project also is more tedious than involving, a series of dramatic setups without sufficient payoffs. From a storytelling perspective, perhaps it would be a better fit as a television miniseries.

Costner is consistently deconstructing the myths of the American West, of manifest destiny and the idea that these people had a claim to anything. He shows us, and them, that this promised land of profit and glory never even existed at all.

I appreciate the history and how this was about Utah which is a place I moved to recently but besides that the movie was super long I tried not to fall asleep a few times I really can't remember what happened maybe if it was a different setting it would be a better experience I will be looking at the second one when it comes out and I will try to watch this again but the first time I watch this it was really boring and long. for all the hype the movie was very drawn out and leaves you with a lot of unknowns by the end it was all just a buildup for the second movie I don't like when movies do that.
