What to Know

Critics Consensus

Kevin Costner doesn't lack for ambition as he sketches this frontier saga across the widest of canvases, but Horizon's first chapter proves too diffuse in scope for it to satisfy as a self-contained endeavor.

It’s too early to declare Horizon a success, a disaster, or even a noble failure, though this first instalment makes it clear audiences traveling west with Costner should prepare for a lengthy trek. Go to Full Review

Horizon is big and bold and majestic, with cinematographer J. Michael Muro capturing those expansive Utah vistas and John Debney’s score making sure that the film sounds just like the Westerns that play in the heads of everybody... Go to Full Review

There's nothing original about it... But I thought it was a serviceable Western. Go to Full Review

Costner is consistently deconstructing the myths of the American West, of manifest destiny and the idea that these people had a claim to anything. He shows us, and them, that this promised land of profit and glory never even existed at all. Go to Full Review

To be fair, it is difficult to judge the film since it is only 1/4 of the whole story. Go to Full Review

It's an above-average production, but we cannot conclude anything yet, as we have not seen the end. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Sean A Jul 20 Extremely boring and disjointed. See more papusa Jul 18 I loved the mix of all the stories out into this one movie! See more jason May 24 Too long and it needs more action for all the dialog See more Alex May 23 I appreciate the history and how this was about Utah which is a place I moved to recently but besides that the movie was super long I tried not to fall asleep a few times I really can't remember what happened maybe if it was a different setting it would be a better experience I will be looking at the second one when it comes out and I will try to watch this again but the first time I watch this it was really boring and long. for all the hype the movie was very drawn out and leaves you with a lot of unknowns by the end it was all just a buildup for the second movie I don't like when movies do that. See more Catherine h Apr 16 Too bad Kevin Costner lost money and cancelled theater showing for the sequel. See more Michael Dec 25 I enjoyed it, however, it just barely got done introduced characters when it endsd. 2 or more parts to come. See more Read all reviews
