Matt Brunson Film Frenzy This one benefits from bright performances, a breezy pace, and a surprising denouement. smooth i Loved this classic Universal Movie. It's kinda like a cross between The Goonies and Romancing The Stone. Solid performances, upbeat fun movie. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member The only ''horror'' in this film comes from watching it. Not the least bit scary; dreadfully dull, and absolutely abysmal. The personification of uselessness. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Diverting little haunted house tale with a decent script and plenty of humour. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member In effect, this is a live-action episode of 'Scooby Doo' (without the dog), and it's every bit as fun. It has absolutely no pretensions and instead sets its sights only on entertaining for its brisk one hour running time. It is not a horror movie, and that probably explains a lot of its unpopularity; instead, it's a haunted house who-dunnit, an involving mystery with a good cast and a good sense of humor. Elwood Bredell supplies wonderful, rich cinematography and gives the great mansion the shadows and crevices it needs. George Waggner and crew shot this film in a remarkable two weeks, and released it, unbelievably, only twenty-five days after beginning shooting. Clearly artistry was never on the producers' minds at Universal for this one. Still, as a B movie thriller-comedy, this is a whole lot of fun, something that can be enjoyed immensely with the right mindset and a big bowl of popcorn. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Not really much of a horror movie, as it is marketed as, but more a whodunit, campy atmospheric and fun little film. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member You kind of expect an island full of monsters or something. So to find out it's basically an old house mystery is a real let down.
