Jon S @jonchristopher May 1 Decidedly lukewarm potboiler stars John Bromfield as a married man and used car salesman in Los Angeles--so honest he can't keep a job!--who is used as a pigeon for a racketeer peddling stolen cars. The dramatic crux of the plot is that Bromfield remains with his job even after he figures out the score because (hold on!) he has a sick child at home. William Margulies' black-and-white cinematography (with lots of location shooting, including the rollercoaster at Santa Monica pier) is terrific, and Les Baxter's nightclub-jazz score has low-flame heat (two of the main reasons why some buffs label the movie a noir). Unfortunately, the cynicism here is strictly the juvenile kind, yet played out by adults who look a little sheepish. See more Read all reviews
