Audience Member I watched this doccie last night, and was enthralled by it. What a fascinating story: the tragic Weissberg's (who owned the hotel for over 50 years), the fascinating Ian Schrager (who used to own Studio 54), and is now creating a hotel empire - with cameo appearances by the brilliant-but-whacky Julian Schnabel, Debby Harry, and Paris Hilton. :) Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Director Douglas Keeve takes a look at the historic Gramercy Park Hotel, from it’s historic heyday in the 1980s with rock musicians partying about to the personal tragedies that befell the Weissburg family who owned the hotel for 50 years. The transition of the hotel to famed luxury hotelier and former Studio 54 club owner Ian Schrager is fascinating. As Schrager’s management company takes over, the impact it has on the longtime residents who refuse to leave during construction or have their apartments touched by renovation to the neighbors who berate him on the street to not “let in the yuppies” is a wonderful ride. The cameo appearances are brilliant (Debbie Harry, Julian Schnabel), including a scene during the hotel’s grand reopening when Paris Hilton is turned away at the hot new nightclub’s door.
