Audience Member Managed to preserve the tense, repressed atmosphere to an extent but too much of Pepe and the outside was shown which lost some of the impact. A good adaptation of a good play. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member the title character here is a widow with 5 unwed daughters who uses God and fear to rule and dominate her household. interesting exanimation of spanish society where woman are supposted 2b admired and placed on a pedastal. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member I appreciate it for the reality that it brings, but having read the original, I found it very prolonged at some points. Not an exception to most movies that fail to be better than the original text. That being said, the role of Maria Josefa is amazingly played, and the story is very powerful. The acting is great, but the directing mostly fails. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Shit version of a good play. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Film adaptation of Garcia Lorca's play about a domineering mother who's sequestering of her daughters is tested when one of them begins to fall for a mysterious man. Tedious and lethargic aren't even enough to describe this film; with no music, stale cinematography and dry stretches of naturalistic footage as filler for what is already a short play, it unfortunately bogs down what is a finely acted piece of work. While I enjoyed many of the main performances, I just could not help but keep wondering if there even existed an editor to keep watch over the film's length. Some may find the pace adequate, I unfortunately found it too much for a film whose story is of such high caliber. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Great adaptation of Lorca's last play. Can't wait to direct this play next spring!
