Anton Bitel Sight & Sound This beautifully disturbing vision of family perverted is a Lovecraftian psychosexual snowglobe of a film, like a fairytale fantasy dreamt up by a child - or by an arrested, damaged adult. Nov 7, 2017 Full Review Joe Lipsett Anatomy of a Scream Housewife is implicitly interested in how roles and destiny are imposed on women -- often against their will and, in this case, by men. Rated: 3.5/5 Sep 30, 2018 Full Review Kat Hughes THN Vastly different to his debut, Evrenol shows that he's more than a one trick pony. Housewife is an intriguing and strangely sensual tale of the descent into madness. Rated: 4/5 Aug 23, 2018 Full Review John Higgins Starburst Evrenol certainly knows and understands the intentions of the genre, even if here he hasn't quite pulled off the right essence of ideas and shocks that an audience looks for in a film like this. Mark W No idea what was going on , totally nuts and weird but couldn't stop watching, last 20 minutes was proper messed up. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/10/24 Full Review Audience Member A woman is confronted with her childhood trauma of her mother murdering her sister and father through an encounter with a dream walking occult leader. Visually beautiful and a film with all the elements to make a good psychological thriller, Housewife falls short due to the unnatural dialogue and poor acting performance. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member It takes more than bizarre imagery to make an intelligent movie, sorry, I'm not tricked by your slight of hand. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Extremely dense and extremely weird and pretty messed up. Actually, very, very messed up! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/15/20 Full Review Audience Member It's almost as if Housewife wants to pretend to be a run-of-the-mill horror flick, while decidedly, it is far stranger. There is a nervous energy about the film; the pacing, how it builds tension, the stereotypical scoring, and most jarring - the strange and stunted dialogue. These aren't necessarily negative criticisms of the film, rather they exemplify how it treads the fine line from campy to surreal in the most Lynchian sense. The colors, framing, and overall misc-en-scene are slightly reminiscent of Kubrick, and the film's parallels to Eyes Wide Shut and/or Mulholland Drive should not be ignored. Ultimately, Housewife is captivating. It holds your attention as the camera hold its attention on our central protagonist which captures the female identity like none I've seen for some time. As the movie came to it's conclusion I realized I couldn't not remember the last time I was this engrossed by a horror movie. It's atmosphere, surreal current, and scare factor hit all the right notes for me. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member this was crazy. wtf even was that ending. no one gets pregnant & gives birth in the span of 10 minutes & still has a perfect stomach.
