Dave S Aug 8 Here’s the thing – it’s almost impossible for a film to live up to a title like How to Plan an Orgy in a Small Town. When sex columnist Cassie (Jewel Staite) is forced to leave the big city and return to her staid, uber-conservative home town for her mother’s funeral, she is coerced into organizing an orgy for the repressed folks of Beaver’s Ridge. If the plot sounds implausible, that’s because it’s implausible. Despite the silliness of the story and production values that are only a notch above your standard Hallmark Christmas movie, How to Plan an Orgy in a Small Town is filled with likeable enough characters and some genuinely funny dialogue. The main problem with the movie is that it is far too sweet for its own good, nowhere near as provocative as it could and should have been.
