I really loved the first movie - there were so many memorable parts! It felt like this one took a bit to warm up to things, and the sense of awe and cuteness didn't quite hit me as much as in the first movie. But still lovable and entertaining!

This was my first time watching this movie and WOW did it blow my mind. It was so beautifully portrayed and written. I love the dynamic between Hiccup and Toothless, even when things tough they pulled through as the dynamic duo that they are. What an amazing sequel. I need to go and watch the third one now!!

"How to Train Your Dragon 2": A Soaring Sequel of Epic Proportions
"How to Train Your Dragon 2" is a remarkable animated film that not only builds upon the foundation of its predecessor but also takes flight into new and exciting realms of adventure, emotion, and self-discovery. With its stunning visuals, engaging story, and well-developed characters, it has firmly established itself as a modern classic in the world of animation.
The film's visual splendor is truly a sight to behold. The detailed landscapes of the Viking island and the vast, uncharted territories beyond are brought to life with vivid colors and meticulous attention to detail. The flight sequences, in particular, are a highlight, as the dragons soar through the skies with grace and power, their movements fluid and realistic. The animators have truly outdone themselves in creating a world that is both fantastical and believable, drawing the audience in and making them feel as if they are right there alongside Hiccup and Toothless.
The story picks up several years after the events of the first film, with Hiccup and his friends now older and more experienced in the ways of dragon riding. However, a new threat emerges in the form of a power-hungry villain named Drago Bludvist, who seeks to control all dragons and use them for his own nefarious purposes. This sets Hiccup and his dragon Toothless on a journey of discovery and adventure, as they must not only face this new enemy but also uncover secrets about Hiccup's past and the history of dragons.
One of the film's greatest strengths lies in its character development. Hiccup, in particular, has grown and evolved since the first film, becoming a more confident and capable leader. His relationship with Toothless remains at the heart of the story, and their bond is deeper and more complex than ever. We see them face challenges and conflicts that test their loyalty and friendship, adding a layer of emotional depth to the narrative. The supporting characters, such as Astrid, Snotlout, and the rest of the gang, also have their moments to shine, each with their own unique personalities and arcs.
Themes of family, friendship, and the power of choice are interwoven throughout the film. Hiccup's relationship with his father, Stoick, is a central focus, as they must navigate the differences in their beliefs and approaches to leadership. The film also explores the idea of forgiveness and redemption, as Hiccup is faced with the difficult decision of whether to show mercy to his enemies. These themes give the story a sense of weight and significance, making it more than just a simple adventure tale.
In addition to its engaging story and well-developed characters, "How to Train Your Dragon 2" also features a memorable musical score. The music perfectly complements the action on screen, heightening the emotional impact of key moments and adding to the overall atmosphere of the film. From the rousing dragon flight themes to the more tender and emotional melodies, the score helps to bring the story to life in a powerful way.
Overall, "How to Train Your Dragon 2" is a triumph of animated filmmaking. It combines stunning visuals, a captivating story, and well-rounded characters to create an experience that is both entertaining and emotionally resonant. It takes the audience on a journey of adventure and self-discovery, leaving them with a sense of wonder and a deeper appreciation for the power of friendship and the importance of following one's heart. Whether you are a fan of the first film or new to the franchise, this sequel is not to be missed. It is a film that will stay with you long after the credits roll, inspiring you to reach for the skies and believe in the impossible.

Dreamworks breaks out their A-Team once again to craft this excellent animated sequel to the groundbreaking original. With stuff like "Shrek 2" and "Kung Fu Panda 2" under their belt, Dreamworks has proven that they are capable of making a good sequel that does justice to the source material. That being said, they have started an odd trend in these sequels. In "Madagascar 2", "Shrek 2", "Kung Fu Panda 3" and this film, the main story is about the hero finding a long-lost parent. Not much to say, just weird that it seems to be their go to formula for a sequel.
Like the first, "How to Train your Dragon 2" has great animation, music and voice acting. The characters are not simply learning the same lessons from the first movie again. They have progressed as characters and now face new challenges.
Where the movie loses steam is in towards the end. The movie has a forgettable main villain, and his plan is tired and cliched. Also, don't watch the trailer, it kind of gives away the idea of the final fight.
It is good. The characters continue to grow as people, and I appreciate the growing world they've created. But some sloppy story beats, and an underwhelming finale hold this back from being an all-time great.
The ending can tend to Drag on...Too...long.
