Sreeju Sudhakaran LatestLY.com Sathyan Anthikad hints at bolder storytelling but ultimately retreats to the safety of the feel-good comfort that his recent films are known for. Pleasant and heartwarming, yes – but, not unforgettable. Rated: 3/5 Aug 30, 2025 Full Review S. R. Praveen The Hindu With Hridayapoorvam, Sathyan Anthikad crafts a light-hearted entertainer by stretching a thin plotline and extracting all the possible laughs out of it. I enjoyed this heartfelt movie a lot. Sandeep Balakrishnan receives the heart of a recently deceased Colonel. The colonel's daughter comes to Kerala to meet Sandeep and invites him to her engagement in Pune, just so that she can feel her father's presence at the event. During his stay at Pune, Sandeep hurts his back and is forced to stay back to recover. During this stay he gets to know the late Colonel and his family and in the process, assesses his own life. It is hard to explain a Sathyan Anthikad movie. It is life and how do you explain that? You have to live to experience it. Hridayapoorvam is Anthikad turning back the years with his most regular collaborator, Mohanlal. Mohanlal as Sandeep is a version of him that we seldom get to see nowadays. His character is mellow, vulnerable and most importantly, relatable. Mohanlal also shares equal screentime with his co-stars here, who contribute a lot to the success of this movie. Malavika Mohanan as the colonel's daughter, Sangita Nair as the colonel's wife and Sangeeth Prathap as Jerry, Sandeep's nurse are all given equall importance. Hridayapoorvam feels like a warm hug and is reminiscent of the good old Malayalam movies that you can just sit back, relax and enjoy. No edge-of-the-seat tension, just smiles and warmth all around. Hridayapoorvam is, for the most part, set outside Kerala and just like Lokah, it is a slap on the face of Param Sundari as it goes to show how small things like representation go a long way. Learn Bollywood, learn! If this year has shown us anything, it is that Mohanlal isn't done yet. He is slowly getting back and positioning himself in roles that demand his talent. I sincerely hope this trend continues. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/31/25 Full Review Read all reviews
